I bought a Kia Sorrento about six months ago and have not used it. three months later started it ,on its own battery ,and turned it off. went to it today and it will not turn over( even with a booster pack)
there is a wee light on on the dash ,a picture of a car and a key along it. to re state that its the outline of a car, from the side ,in yellow with a black key running the length of it.

    Any suggestions?

Looks like an immobiliser issue, have you a 2nd key you got with it to try?

These have some elaborate alarm system on them. Best to check that this is fully disarmed.

Could be like jump starting renaults years ago where you had to unlock them and lock them and unlock them

Have you tried charging the battery? If it's only had a few minutes running in 6 months, and who knows how little before you purchased it, there might not be a enough juice to disable the immobiliser. Either way it'll do no harm to fully charge the battery.

This car is still immobile.my nephew has heard of a trade secret re this problem, we attached a fully charged booster pack, and no go. At this stage the kia battery is stone dead, so will put in a charged battery tomorrow.
Today I Google the problem and found someone, somewhere had same or similar problem and it involved replacing some started immobiliser part.

    Any more ideas.

The key on car symbol is definitely the immobiliser. Look for some quick fixes on you tube etc and also remove the negative connection only from the battery, this sometimes has the result of resetting the ECUs. Failing that and you not having a replacement key it looks like you'll have to bring the car to a main dealer for recoding.
