Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD Laptop - Won't power up.

    Hi all,

I've a Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD Laptop with Win 10 which won't power up. The power button has a flashing LED and it's definitely charged as I have it plugged in and I've tested the power source by plugging it into another Lenovo laptop.

It was working fine this morning. I closed the lid and when I came home this evening it's dead. I tried holding the power button down for a long time, I tried Ctrl + Alt + Del and I tried resetting it using the OneKey Recovery button but nothing seems to stir it up in any way and it's not a case of the screen being off or broken as I've checked all those function keys etc.

I'm out of warranty so not hopeful of getting much support from Lenovo.

    Any suggestions?

    Bonsoir, Jean
Not sure of BIOS alerts on your box. Watch for flashing CAps Lock and the like.

Also, remove power cord, remove battery, wait at least a minute, replace battery, replace cord. then try.

Saw this on HP laptop, flashing CapsLock meant knackered CPU. I manage to get it going again, for a very short time. THe CPU had overheated because the CPU fan was full of lint/dust. Very poor design rather than poor handling.

    Thanks Nick,

There isn't a removable battery on this I'm afraid. Doing a "hard reset" was one of the first things I thought of doing but I can't see a way to do it and it could take months before the little flashing LED eventually runs down the battery :(

    Hi Jean,

Sorry about that, was unsure as to what type of device you have (so I've looked it up!!).

Presumably you've gone through the manual, which uses the phrase "have the device serviced" a number of times. If you haven't then its easily found on the Lenovo site. THere are references to a Novo button, or probably its proper title is "Nuclear Option".

In my own case, the HP had a Nuclear Option, but in fact I was able to back out of it - by which I mean, when I selected it, it sort of said "are you sure about this?" - you'd hope the old Novo button would be as cautious....

Now this was when I hit a problem when my Windows became corrupted, not the broken CPU referred to earlier. THe reason I used it was to see if anything at all was working. Once I was able to determine that the device hardware was ok, I then backed out of the nuclear option, and pressed the power button until the device reset, although there was nothing obvious happening. In my case it had been that the laptop had sort of locked itself in sleep mode and the only way to fix it was to nuke it, eventually. But first I had another pc on the same network and I went searching the network to see could I find the sleeping laptop. I did, and mapped a drive to it, then sucked all the data off it, then nuked it.

I'm not sure if any of this can be done in your case, but if it can, it might be your way back.

    Good luck.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks very much for the input. I do indeed have the manual and have tried the various suggestions, including the hard reset you linked to without success. The hard reset button (Novo button) isn't having any effect. That's where I'm stuck!!

    Hi Jean,

I'm sorry that the only thing I was able to give you was anecdote of my own attempts.

    On this page
    (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-500-cannot-wake-up-from-sleep/td-p/2208519)
there's a reference to removing the battery, which fixed the problem. There's nothing about HOW to actually do it, just that it worked. Also the author stresses that she is NOT recommending this course of action.

Its actually amazing how many people have reported this on the internet with these devices. If you do get it back, check out known issues with Windows 10 auto updates of drivers, and also using Intel original drivers. That featured in a few conversations. I've also heard of sleep mode problems caused by power management software and drivers in PC's.

If you're wild and adventurous like me, I think I know what you'll do.

    Good luck.

I'm following this thread, so post the outcome here, as I'd like to see how you get on.

    Cheers,
    NN

Will do Nick. I'm sure I'll get it resolved eventually I will indeed post the outcome here, positive or negative.

    Thanks again for your input.

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with my Lenovo Yoga 500 also. I ordered it from amazon last week and it arrived this morning. It is stuck on the loading screen you get when you switch it on. It just doesn't load. Any suggestions?

How did you get on Jean?

It had been working okay, if a little slow, but i had no issues with it starting up. But now I can't even get onto the desktop screen.

Apologies Sean, i was sure i posted the resolution to the problem but clearly i didn't add now i can't remember what i did to get it back wiring again.

I know it's little comfort but i did get it back working and it continues to operate without problem.

I've an inkling i went into bios (F12?) And was able to do a safe start followed by a regular start there.
