Hi there. I am currently in fifth year but am wondering about opting to homeschooling. I have been in and out of school most of my time at secondary and I feel this is my last option. I have research a few places that do leaving cert subjects online. One place that got my attention was Homeschool.ie. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with homeschooling for the leaving cert and any advice they'd have to give? I'm also a little confused as to how you do projects/practicals for subjects if you're not in school? For subjects such as geography and Home economics? Many thanks :)

Also the subjects I had in mind to do are English, Maths, Geography, Biology, Chemisty, Home Economics, Business & Economics all Higher level and then Ordinary level Irish.

No modern European languages? Only ask as you have business and economics.

No. See I did do German for the junior cert but didn't quite grasp it as my teacher wasn't the best! Thought it might've been to hard to continue for leaving as I barely scraped a D.

Can your current school not facilitate a reduced timetable? So to keep you in mainstream but with the freedom not to be there all the time? Talk to year head /guidance team about it.

    That's not an option.

Is it health or behaviour issues keep you out of school?
If it's health, there may be some hours available from the Department to help. Contact your school's special needs department about it.

Unless you have been excluded from school on a permanent basis, it is an option. They have a duty to engage the educational welfare officer if you are not in and have to come up with a plan. If you don't want to be there but do want to do leaving cert they have a legs responsibility to help you.
