Valve Cover Gasket in Ford Focus

I'm going to be replacing the Valve Cover Gasket in a mk2 Ford Focus 1.4LX.

I have watched quite a few videos of this on Youtube so I'm familiar with the general process but haven't managed to find one for my model of car which leaves me lacking some detail.

I found this in the Ford Workshop manual online which makes it seem pretty straightforward (replace with .com): http: //workshop-manuals [dotcom] ford/focus_2004.75_07.2004/mechanical_repairs/3_powertrain/303_engine/303-01a_engine_1.4l_duratec-16v_%28sigma%29-1.6l_duratec-16v_%28sigma%29/description_and_operation/diagnosis_and_testing/general_procedures/removal_and_installation/valve_cover/

Is there anything I'm missing or anything to be mindful of when doing this? I did get some RTV sealant which I intend to use on the sharper corners to aid sealing.

    All advice much appreciated

    Anyone at all?

I should be giving it a shot over the next few days anyway so I'll post back how I got on if it's useful for anyone else

Just thought I'd report back for any future users.

This was a really handy job. The only slight difficulty I had was disconnecting the cable in the top left hand side of the diagram above (not sure what it does). A small wire clip needs to be popped out before pulling the lead off. It's a bit difficult to see as it's on the far side of you but once I copped this it was easy to get everything apart.

A good clean of the cover and mating surface with a rag and brake cleaner and a new gasket (15 EUR) put in with a few lines of RTV sealant. I changed the plugs at this stage as well - copper grease on the threads and dialetric grease where they meet the boot and bolted it all back together. The torque setting is low at 9nm which is way below the minimum on my torque wrench so I had to estimate it. One person online said that with the standard length wrench this would equal approx 3kg of effort which made it easier to estimate.

Car is running perfectly now. It was suffering a misfire and was throwing up a code for inefficient catalytic converter, I'm guessing because it was getting clogged with oil. This may be a future problem but I've cleared the code and I'll see if fixing the cause is enough to avoid a future problem with this
