Tax Credits - two jobs

Hi there, just wondering if anyone could give me a short simple answer on this:
I have been working a part time job while in college for the last two and half years, this summer I began a full time, six month paid placement for my college course for a gross pay of about E285. I decided to keep on the part time work on a Saturday to try and save as much as I could before heading back to college in January. After a couple of weeks I managed to get the revenue to change my tax status in the full time placement from emergency to normal and to split my tax credits in such a way so that I was only getting deducted about a fiver USC from the Saturday job and about E3 from the full time placement.

This had been working up until the last couple of weeks, as half of my gross pay from my part time job is now deducted as PAYE for no obvious reason. i am now gone from E74 pw to E35 pw. The only time I have been deducted PAYE in my part time job is during the summer where I had worked a certain number of hours only now I work 8 hours a week. Am I missing something obvious here and can I can change it back to what I have asked for?

Log in to your PAYE online account where you can confirm how your credits are split, and update them if needed. I do this regularly, it's pretty straight forward. Just work out how much you wil earn gross from both in this calendar year, and divide as appropriate. Don't forget to split your USC as well.

You'll have built up credits during the year which now likely have run out so you are being taxed on all income whereas before you had spare credits

Tax credits accumulate on a weekly or monthly basis.

So if you have 3300 per year in tax credits, then each week that's the equivalent of earning 317 per week before you have to pay tax.

If you don't earn that much then the tax credits roll over.

In your case given the change in your circumstances, it sounds like you have hit any unused tax credits and are now being taxed on the basis of your weekly credits, as what you had spare have been used.

Just to update: the revenue has said that they have not done anything to the credits and to contact my payroll operator who in this case is my boss. Is it possible for an empower to have that ability to change anything like taxes or anything on the payslip?

No , your employer can not change your credits. They can make mistakes with payroll though.

Revenue said they did not change your credits . Did you ask them to ? Easiest is to get a paye online account on revenue.ie and check/update them yourself
