Signing back on after temp contract

I've started the process of reinstating my claim after my contract finished earlier than it was supposed to. The contract said "12 weeks approximately" as it was covering sick leave but the person I was covering returned to work slightly earlier than the 12 weeks so hence I was out the door. I was waiting ages to get the letter from the company confirming my start and end dates to take it to social welfare despite my efforts of getting them to hurry on.

I contacted DSP today they tell me my claim will be reinstated next week (3 weeks after finishing!!!) and I'll get one weeks payment. Am I wrong in thinking it should be back dated to the date I became unemployed again?

You can ask to have your claim back dated,however you needed to sign on on the first day you were unemployed and the wait for letters,p45 ect from the company.

Think it is only back dated to when you contacted social welfare yourself.
