Does anyone have information on getting a supply of electricity to land away from house for an electric fence. What's the difference between metered and unmetered supply?

we have an unmetered , you just pay a fixed charge every 2 months, Think it's about 7 euro , or 45 euro per year

the supply has a low ampage supply fuse so if you connect any thing using a large draw of current it will trip & you'll have to get the esb to reconnect

Did it cost much to get it put in? How long ago did you get the connection? Thanks for your reply.

It's in well over 20 years. Can't remember exactly, about 400 to esb and something similar to electrician. Was lucky there was a pole with supply nearby.

If there is a transformer at site e385 (two years ago) to ESB You need to get box on wall plus cable from pole, e800. If no transformer, cast of transformer plus poles, could to e4000

thought about solar power alright but its near a national route and a minor road... cant see it surviving there too long.. last year I had drinking troughs stolen from the field..

We have a metred supply which just runs lights on few sheds when needed in winter and fence all year round - think bill is 50 euro every two months.
