    Hi there
Myself and my boyfriend have booked a two week holiday to cape town in November. We are planning five days in cape town and then three days in kruger and then driving to stellenbosch on the Monday of our last week and travelling to franschhoek and harmanus but is there any other towns you would recommend we visit,we have to be back in cape town by the saturday but would like to see as much as we can.

    Any advice or suggestions welcome

    Many thanks

The one piece of advice if you are driving is this.

If you are flagged down or another car flashes you to pull over.....DONT.
Drive straight to the nearest police station.

    Table Mountain is a must.

Do the wine tram tour in Franschoek - it's a fun way to visit a few vineyards.

Take a trip down to Cape Point, down the east side of the peninsula via Simon's Town. Stop at Boulders beach on the way down to visit the penguins! Then you can drive back to the city via Chapman's Peak drive and Hout Bay.

Cape Town is a unique place, enjoy!

Kariega is a good safari alternative to Kruger. Also the little karoo is worth driving through / visiting as an alternative to the garden route. Cape Town is good but pretty much like any European city. The area around Kynsna is good for beaches, adventure sports and there's a good elephant reserve there. Amazing country - enjoy!

Do a whale tour in Hermanus if it's in season.

Definitely go to Boulder Beach, Onle of the best places in to world you can go and see penguins in the wild.

Cape Town Aquarium is awesome as well.

If you are driving you'll be plagued by kids looking for a few rand to 'mind your car' when you park. I always gave them something (was a few € cents each time) and was never any bother.'

As was said, do the table but only if it's clear, otherwise you will see nothing. It's also cold up there.

Go see the cape as well but beware of the local wildlife that will steal your lunch without hesitation. :)

    Just back from SA.

    Did 3 nights Cape Town, 1 x Hermanus, 1x Montagu, 2 x Knynsa, 1 x Port Elizabeth. Flew to J'Burg x 1. 3 X Krugar

Try get involved in 1 of the charities locally. We went to Kliptown. SA is in turmoil and the country is going to ****e in my opioion. The level of corruption from top to bottom is upsetting. You will see for yourself

My wife and I have flights booked to Cape Town for late June for 2 weeks. Has anyone any recommendations on where to stay in Cape Town? AirBnB a good option?

Looking at hiring a car and doing the garden route so any recommendations there would be appreciated.

I've been pricing safaris and they are very expensive. Any ideas?

If either of your surf then you should visit Jefferies Bay, other than that you should visit Knasya too
Plett bay is also worth a visit , lovely beach.
The wine busses in stelly leave early make sure to book one.

No need for a whale tour in Hermanus, you see much more from the shore (well we did )
Literally hundreds some 5 ft away from the pier

We did a safari in Here: http://www.amakhala.co.za

It's one of the smaller ones but close to cape town reasonable priced and has all the animals the big ones have

That's one we are currently looking at. Seems the cheapest available in that area. Would you recommend 2 nights rather than 1?

Deffo 2 or even three. With 1 night you may just see a few of the animals , remember it's a safari and not a zoo so the animals are all over a massive area. In saying that the guides are good and if they know your schedule they'll try to ensure you see the big 5.

    Thanks for the replies.
We're planning on hiring a car and we're wondering should we hire a car one way (Cape Town-Port Elizabeth) and fly back or just drive back? Drive back is a good bit cheaper so leaning towards it.

Fly back , internal flights are relative cheap

You could drive alright, some of the mountain passes are very impressive like the Alps but in Africa:pac:

I think we'll drive back as it's considerably cheaper. We'll try and go back another route.

Just booked the Amakhala Reserve. Hope it's good!
    Thinking of the following itinerary:
    4 nights Cape Town
    2 nights Hermanus
    2 nights Plettenberg Bay
    3 nights Amakhala
    1 night Oudsthoorn
    1 night Cape Town
    Anything you would change?

I really don't see how you think it's cheaper, it's only 65 euro each. You'd spend that on food, petrol , accommodation etc

How much do you think it is?

Looks like a good schedule, I'd maybe change 1 night in hermanus for 1night in stellenbosch.

For what it's worth of the coast from North East to Cape Town I felt KwaZulu-Natal was hands down by far the most spectacular. The garden route was underwhelming in general compared to the east coast.

Allow plenty of time to drive from Amakhala to Oudtshoorn and again to Cape Town on the following day.We stayed at Addo National Park and drove the inland route back to Cape Town via Oudtshoorn and I actually preferred it to the Garden Route.Long drives but worth it I think.

    A night/day in Stellenbosch is a MUST!!!!

We visited the Vergelegen wine estate, went on the cellar tour and had lunch in the restaurant. Stunning wine, stunning scenery and best wine experience of my life!

It's €50 extra for car hire to drop off at a different location. Then add €130 for flights. We'd need to pay for accommodation/food somewhere anyway so that's an extra €180. The only expense we'd have for driving back is petrol. Not sure if it's worth flying or not. Will need to think about it.
Which accommodation did you stay in Amakhala? We've booked the Woodbury Tented Camp.

I'm not a wine drinker and my wife is pregnant so is there much point really?

Are you planning on going to any of the tourist attractions in Oudtshoorn?
There's the kango caves, ostrich farms, crocodile farms. But if you arent, I'd propose an alternate overnight spot.

If you can travel a bit further down route 62 there's a place called Warmwaterberg Spa, about 20mins before you get Barrydale when coming from Oudtshoorn. You can't really miss it, turn off right at Ronnie's Sex Shop (a pub on R62), then about 2 minutes up the dirt road.

They've natural warm water pools, cold water pool too, though you won't be going near that.

They've log cabins that's fully equipped and perfect for a 1 night stay. Restaurant on site.

Perfect spot to just chill out in the middle of nowhere.
