The English St Leger, in terms of quality, is equivalent to a Class 6 race vrs A graded race tomorrow, when compared to the Irish Champion Stakes, which will be an absolute cracker.

    Really fancy minding

In fact, I'm not sure I've seen a better line up this flat season, anywhere . The best renewal by far for over a decade or more

Yes though the St Leger is probably easier to pick. Idaho should hack up. 8/11 I'll take, any shorter than that I won't bother.

Minding is my pick for the champion stakes as well, see a big day for O Brien. Harzand will be hard bet tho.

Leopardstown picks today. Cracking days racing!

    Radanpour
    Qemah
    Awtad
    Harzand
    Sikaranbad

Humidor is worth a poke in the Portman handicap at Doncaster. Won't mind the rain, coming right back to form, proven in big fields, a good pace angle - especially in softened ground.

    18s available

The ground is faster today than the last 2 days according to clerk of the course at 9 this morning, there was a shower or 2 since but it shouldn't have done much damage

Fear that British and Irish breeders, owners, and trainers are going the way of the US and importance of speed and middle distance races. Stayers are brcoming a dirty word sadly ,despite a very decent programme for the older horses

    Chance Sword Fighter, each way

Fancy Randapour in the big handicap, nice draw

Irish Stakes Stick with Harzand and a saver on New Bay(horrible draw so each way)

Matron: Last minute,if the ground is okay, chance Alice Springs

    Group 3 Chance Stellar Mass

    Clearly,not confident

Whats the riding arrangements for the O Brien horses?
The RP has Colm O Donoghue, Donnacha O Brien and Seamie Heffernan at Doncaster and Leopardstown.

Have to be with Key To My Heart in the opening maiden at Leopardstown. Although she looked outpaced last time I reckon that was more a mixture of greeness and Donnacha giving her too much to do off a slow pace. They started her off over 6f so they probably think she has a bit of speed as her breeding suggests and 7f shouldn't be a problem. Bolger's strike rate is lower on his second time out runners than first so you have to be against Tradfest for me and the newcomers are from yards not known for saddling debutantes. The O'Brien 2nd string won't like coming back in trip so Key To My Heart looks a nice bit of value at 3/1 with Moore taking over. The Twomey horse has come in for money and he can certainly ready one but I reckon he won't be quite good enough. I can see him placing or finishing up the field and the owners selling him on for a nice fee.

In the 4.00 contest I like Radio Silence. Douglas Mac Arthur a worthy favourite but 8/15 looks very short when he's coming up against a horse who ran really well in a Group 2 last time. He has to step up markedly on form and although that is very possible given his reputation 8/15 is very skinny to take that risk. Radio Silence seems quite highly rated as a tilt at the Breeders Cup has been mentioned and Bolger's incredible Leopardstown record is another positive. The 5/1 on Stan James looks generous.

Was liking Silver Concorde in the 4.35 back on a decent surface as he ran really well in the Chester Cup but the fact Smullen chose Radanpour put me off. I didn't like Radanpour as he doesn't look quite the horse he was at 3 although he does look like the type to respond to blinkers and he was quite highly regarded once upon a time. Annoyingly Silver Concorde is now 8/1. No bet race for me with big dangers like Pyromaniac getting support.

Zhukova looks the one in the Enterprise Stakes. Couldn't have US Army Ranger at the prices after a set back and then a poor effort. Bondi Beach and Stellar Mass are solid Group horses but Zhukova looks potentially Group 1 class after two unbeaten runs this year and Weld can get them ready fresh. Qemah the right favourite in the Matron but she hasn't been beating a whole lot despite winning Group 1s and Persuasive looks very progressive. On the other hand Qemah is also likely to step up given how easily she's been winning so the market looks right and I'm not going to have a bet.

In the Boomerang Stakes I think Tribal Beat has a good chance. Hit It A Bomb looks ungenuine and Awtaad hasn't backed up his Irish Guineas effort and now wears a tongue tie which is a concern as it seems as if they are reaching for anything to recapture his form. Tribal Beat doesn't have a lot to find getting weight from Awtaad and is still unexposed while also having the Bolger factor over course and distance so the 4/1 in a few places is a nice price.

New Bay hasn't reproduced his 3 year old form yet but Chantilly has had terrible problems with viruses and he has had an interrupted campaign. Vibes seem strong now though and his Arc 3rd puts him well in the mix. They tend to bring them on slower in France too so I think he can build upon his 3 year old campaign so he's the one for me. I'm against Harzand who doesn't shape like he wants to step down and Minding hasn't been beating much all year. Found just isn't a proper Group 1 horse and although I liked Hawkbill as well as New bay earlier in the weak the rain hasn't quite came for him.

English raiders seem to mop up 5-7f Irish sprint handicaps and Cornwallville one just put up a personal best when upped to 7f. That race is working out really well and if he builds on that he should be right there. Another positive is his trainer Loughnane who seems like a promising upcoming trainer. Not sure coming back in trip suits Sikandarabad, Kelinni doesn't arrive in the same form he did last year and Time To Reason looks about the right price despite his progressive profile because of the record of Irish trainer's in these races. Withersnea might not have liked the good to firm ground he's been racing on recently but the ground won't be that bad at all here and he doesn't come off the page as being well handicapped off 95. 12/1 e/w looks good on Cornwallville.

The Champion stakes is a race of awesome depth, if it was a straight forward 10f Gp1 I'd really fancy Hawkbill but it's a race of champions and it will require real class to win it. On that basis Harzand is the one to fear.

I hate backing Weld horses as they often come up short but Harzand has the stamp of a champion and hopefully Weld knows what he's doing here. I did think that he needed 12f but Weld shouldn't be running him in this 10f champion class race to see his champion 3yo credentials destroyed, so yep Harzand for me. Love Minding and like Harzand she knows how to win but her collateral form ain't great and she looked tired the last day, having said that Moore has passed over the likes of Found and Highland Reel for her so there's every chance she's going to win easily enough today.

Double up was progressive last season, ran only twice this season in a listed and group race. 88 day lay off a bit of a concern but would not be surprised if he ran a decent race for last years winning trainer in the Portland at Donny 10/1. Another love at Leopardstwon in the first has been punted from 20/1 into 8's for a yard that landed a right touch earlier this season with another 2yr old maiden before it was sold to godolfin. GL today

    Franca Florio 9-1 3.35

I like this here. Bottom weigh and I think the good to soft ground suits it better. Has won over this trip also. Quite a few here have not.
    2pts win 9-1

Got it wrong when I said Harbour won over 2m, was just held in that race two back, just failing.
Won over 1m 6 f before that staying on strong.
I thought that ability to stay won it today. Front two looked to be clear, they just faded late on. Idaho falling was unlucky.
    Only hoped for a place.

Pocket talking but....was that a bad ride by Moore? Could he have US Army Ranger closer turning in?

Edit: having watched it again Moore wasnt travelling too well....the winner shot away too with a great turn of foot.
Just nabbed some 5-1 on her for the Champions Fillies and Mares

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,908 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

    Alice Springs 11-2 5.35
Was unlucky two races aback against Qemah, crowded out and having to switch direction, once clear ran on but only 3rd.
I think it will win here today.

I like it to win at 11-2

    2pts win

Gone with Found (10/1) in the ICS. Can't have Harzand over the trip. Huge Minding fan and I hope she wins.

Also done Jet Setting (8/1) in the Matron.

Ladbrokes money back as free bet if 2nd or 3rd to SP fav in Champion. Harzand worth a few quid at 100-30 assuming Minding starts fav.

    Hawkbill 12-1 6.45

3 time class one winner this year. Poor run last time out on firmer ground, could of been an issue.
    Conditions better today for it.
    1pts ew 12

Not the crazy tip. On him myself. The last two winners of this race were consistent sorts .not really the case for these this year bar him ,alas the two three years olds only ran once so far and the guineas winner, can he recover from Goodwood?
