If anyone has an Avocet national cylinder lock be advised mine just went faulty. It was not tampered with, but when the key opened it part of the lock came away. They are supposed tohave a 10 year guarantee. I have been on to them in the UK, but while sounding polite, they are not keen on examining the faulty abs lock.

Same happened to me. Lock sheared off at the front section. I think the point it snapped at is that designed to snap when tampered. It would be the weakest point.
Mine was fitted to a patio door and I have no reason to believe it was tampered but I cannot be absolutely certain. There were no signs of any interference on the door or the lock itself.
It was an Avocet abs lock. At the time I thought it was caused by a shock possibly from slamming the sliding patio door but now I am wondering was there a flaw in the design?
Did you manage to open the door with the key?
I had a thumb turn on mine so opening it from inside was not an issue.

Mine did not snap, the front 3cms came out with the key. Did you contact the supplier? Any photos.

No I did not photo it or follow up with supplier as I thought I had caused it to snap. I was very surprised at the time but then forgot about it.
I opened it using the thumb turn and heard something drop outside. It was the front section had sheared off. I very seldom used the key as it was usually opened and locked from the inside.
Did the barrel remain intact when you withdrew the key? If I remember correctly there are pins coming up from the bottom holding the inside sections in the barrel. Did some pins break or drop out?
I think those pin positions program the lock.

That is a different problem to mine.

I googled Avocet problem just now and found a post on PistonHeads.com saying Avocet had a quality problem in 2012 and some suppliers stopped stocking them. Locks were failing and people were being locked out. Sorry I cannot get the link but you will find it easily enough.

Yes have read that,my problem is with the company not being interested in a flaw in one of their high security products. That is to say we're sorry,we will send you a replacement and examine the faulty one.
