Emergency Tax

    Hi,

I currently work on a CE Scheme which also allows me to take up part time work, I was offered a few days work at Electric Picnic, this was a once off from the employer. No other work will follow.

I was heavily tax on the emergency tax rate.

I know that this would normally be returned to a person in a few weeks, but how will I get this back as this employer won't be paying me anymore funds.

Is it a case of having to wait until the end of the year and then claim it back from the Revenue?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

When you give your next employer a P45 it should be dealt with in payroll.

When you start a new job you don't get heavily taxed at emergency tax rates .

The first 4 weeks of emergency are normal tax credit rates , unless you have been registered with this employer already and the if so the first 4 week allowances may not count .

Compared to the quite likely 0 PAYE they'd have to pay at all for a very low total annual income, it may seem heavy.

You'll get it back in January on requesting a P21 if you don't have further paid employment this year.
