Remember when journalists had integrity and they reported actual news instead of pure unadulterated nonsense?

Well, neither do I, but I remember when they weren't as blatant about it.

I'd prefer fake spiders to those damned midges and low budget flies.

I'm no good at judging the size of crowds Ted, but I'd say there's about seventeen million of them out there.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Anyway that article is from The Telegraph, so they'll only be in the UK. If we can rush Brexit through they won't be allowed in here.

spider obesity will be on the rise this year with all this food

It's perfectly simple. They merely extrapolate how many daddy long
legs are in one square meter and then they add 17 zeros. And subtract 26.

Some very fat ones already on our outside window. We had an absolute cloud of midges on it - I went outside for two-three minutes and was eaten alive. The spiders were in arachnid heaven with a veritable feast swarming into their webs.

A great way to deal with these creatures, if one manages to get indoors, is to lift up a friendly cat and have him instinctively murder it with his furry little paws.

Oh well. Just to get my oar in:

“Crane flies are completely harmless,” says Mr Dimond. "

Yeah? Dead sneaky, Mr D! I see what ye just did there! The adult Crane Fly's harmless. But, their bloody kids ~ Leatherjackets ~ scoff grass from under the ground. Like the insect worlds answer to bloody rodents, they are!

As a farmer I'm wondering is this as a result of taking the insecticide that kills the larval stage of the cranefly (leather jacket ) off the market. Certain crops are attacked by the leather jacket and to prevent this small blue slug pellets or flakes were spread on the soil at planting to kill the larvae before they attacked the seedlings.
The replacement product is not as effective so I'm told and more expensive too.

Im going to get the fly rod out:D

Did the guy selling the slug pellets tell you that?

    No the lads using it.

So that explains why so many of the little feckers have come into my house recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭KungPao

It's the house spiders I fear. Already had a few encounters recently, I don't want to talk about it. Crane flies are just silly big ants with wings, they are humorous little fellas.

You'd be killing a lot of beneficial critters too if you were just to mix it in with soil. like that

I doubt it'd even be legal to put so much of it down and sell the crop

200 Billion Daddy Long Legs on the way.

Seems like a fair trade for the €13 billion, the shower of obedient sheep in government decided not to take.
