I know the NCT mentions something like..

"Ensure the wheel hubcaps are removed (only in the case where the wheel nuts are NOT visible)"

So should be OK here, right?

Just thought I'd clarify as saw mixed opinions online.. my last car had wheel trims which hid wheel nuts so I always had to remove them.

looks good to me. I think they just need to know that there are no wheel nuts missing.

Can't tell from the picture, but if the nuts themselves have a plastic cover, you need to remove them.

Those Ford nut covers are non-removable and you can use a socket directly over them. If OP was to remove the covers he would never be able to put them back on.

Plus those aren't wheel trims :)

Yes he would.... Stupid design, Nearly guaranteed the shiny cover comes off eventually. Just need an 18mm socket instead of 19mm. :)

OP please clean the brake dust off :p

Why would you think one needs to remove them for the test?
Nothing like that on NCT website....

It was said earlier that the covers are part of the nut and they don't need to be removed.

In some cars they are part of the nut, in some others they are not and are easily removable.

But it any case they don't need to be removed for NCT.

I *think* that rule is mainly to ensure no nuts are missing.

There are exceptions like those on my car. I forgot to remove the cap thinking it is not a wheel trim but NCT picked it as a fail in addition to other stuff.

I was told to remove them on my wife's Fabia(then lost them)

I'd disagree, the NCT test requires a visual inspection of the actual nut to ensure the correct nut is fitted and it's not damaged or loose, a cap which is fitted on top may hide any issues with the actual nuts themselves.

A nut cap dosn't mean the nut isn't damaged or cracked or loose or that there's even a nut underneath** so it's reasonable to say they do need to be removed.

**Years aho I removed a nut cap which was held in place by god knows what to change the wheel and I looked staight into a threaded hole and no nut.

Just because the NCT site or manual dosn't say it dosn't mean it must not be done, the manual does say the nut must be checked for damage etc and a cover can hide that.

I agree with everything you say, except the bolded.

If car manufacturer equipped my wheel nuts with plastic covers, and NCT website, faq and manual doesn't tell me I have to take them off, then all it means I don't need to take them off, and NCT tester will have to deal with it himself - whether by taking them off himself or not inspecting the nuts.
It's really as simple as that.

They can't just come up with some out of the sky requirements which are not publically available.

Point 4 on the "Pre NCT Checklist' makes it clear they require the wheel nuts to be visible.

    4. The wheel hubcaps are removed (only in the case where wheel nuts are
not visible) and the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure.

No. All it says that hubcaps must be removed if wheel nuts are not visible.
No where it says that wheel nut coveres must also be removed.

Ah Jesus, It's fairly obvious they want the nuts visible. Why be awkward about what it says?

Why do you think they say

"Only in the case where wheel nuts are not visible"?

Do you think they would test your car if you had snow socks covering your wheels?

A little common sense goes a long way, rather than having to have every little detail spelled out .
