Young Hurler Of The Year 2016.

If Austin Gleeson plays a stormer next Saturday, the award should be his.

Otherwise it will be tight between him and John McGrath !

Even if Waterford lose on Saturday, Aussie still has YHOTY in the bag.

It will definitely be Aussie. If Waterford had made it to the final he'd probably have picked up hurler of the year as well, assuming he put in any kind of shift. Callanan now will obviously get hurler of the year after his performance though.

    definitely Aussie.

Maher the centre back from Tipp in second place, and his performances would have won this award in most years.

Not even debatable it's Austin Gleeson, had Waterford made the AI final he would have won HOTY, be a joke if Callnan get's it for one great display, Maher should get it imo, even Burke from Galway or Gleeson deserve it over Callanan imo.

Not sure what matches you've been watching Callanan has had a great year. Only scored the 2-47 in 5 games.

No contest really regardless of today. Gleeson probably the hurler of the year really when it comes to consistent outstanding performances throughout the year. No one could begrudge Callinan that award though. Maher very unlucky as he would have won it any other year but it would be daylight robbery if Gleeson didn't win young hurler.

I think Callinan for HOTY is set in stone. He has been immense and at times unmarkable. Has done very little wrong and even in the one match where he didn't shine from play he was faultless from frees and had a key role with his pass for McGraths goal. As someone said 2-47 in 5 games coming up just 5 points short of top scorer this year behind Dooley who played 1 match more (as an addendum there is a man who has consistently put up huge scores each year and does not get credit for the talent he is).
YHOTY will be Gleeson. He stood out in so many matches as the best player on the field but did show inconsistencies and can count himself lucky on a few occasions not to have received harsher reprimands from referees. He is so raw yet so talented, makes so many wrong decisions on shot selections but is still such a good hurler for his age. He can do things most others just can't and has the full skill set. Nothing but himself stopping him from being the best in the country by a long way in a few years, once he works on his decision making and his temperment.

joke if Callnan get's it for one great display,

Which one would he be getting it for?

Callinan should be hurler of the year and Gleeson should get young hurler of the year. Anyone saying Callinan had one good game should really look back at the season becuase they aren't talking any sense.

Imagine saying someone who has an average of over 10 points a game only had one good game this season.

Not to mention the fact that one good hurler with an average of over 10 points a game also dominated the All-Ireland, from play.

Wouldn't be too bothered with the average score if you're taking frees into account. But he is worth the award for the all ireland alone, think it was as classy a display as I've seen froma forward in an all ireland final.

    Austin Gleeson for sure.
Callanan for hoty. His efficiency is what set him apart this year. Nothing flash but every possession counted.
