Is There a Way to Send Free Group Text Messages?

    Our Parents Association would like to send free text messages to all the parents (about 250 people) at the school. Is there a way to do this? The school is currently being charged 11 cents per message through their system. Not all parents have WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber, etc. so we'd like to stay away from them. Any ideas for free or very low-cost text messaging services? How do other sports groups, community groups, parents' associations, etc. communicate with their members?

    We got a Tesco prepay mobile and a Tesco rewards card. As far as I remember we top it up by €15/pm, which gives calls and texts. Then spend €10 of your credit on the Text add-on which gives you 5,000 texts per month. Set up your texting list on the phone as a group, and Bobs your uncle.

    Could you use email instead?

    Thanks for all the answers, they've been very helpful. I've given webtext.com a call. It will probably cost about €12.50 every time we send a message to all the parents through them. I'll be looking into the Tesco idea next. We're still considering using email instead of texts, although wouldn't work as well given some parents hardly ever check their emails, or don't use email at all in some cases.
