Best Approach to teaching LC History

I've never taught Leaving Cert History before, only to Junior Cert level, and have a 5th Year group for the year. I've been reading through the book and adding in my own notes on handouts and whiteboard and have the odd powerpoint or video from youtube. I'm just wondering what approach do teachers take to teaching LC History ? I' doing Fascism in Italy at present. What kind of homework is best to give on a nightly basis ? When finished it should I give them an exam question to do for homework or prepare it for a class test ?
