Unlocked dongle

I have a summer house in a remote area of West Cork where there has been no sniff of a mobile phone signal over the years. I have been able to pick up a Meteor signal outside the house this summer so I borrowed a Meteor dongle (Huawei E5330) last weekend and eureka - if I put the dongle inside any of the windows at the front of the house I have internet coverage.

I need to return the dongle but I would like to buy an unlocked one (in the hope that other providers will become available in the future. What should I go for - preferable something that will take an external antenna. Should I stick with Huawei (E5573, E5577?). Am I safe buying these in Amazon - will there be any issue using an Irish sim-card?

Just to give this a slight bump - can anybody confirm that the unlocked version of the Huawei E5577 4G/LTE will work with a SIM card from any of the Irish providers

Once it's unlocked it will work with any SIM card.

    Check that it supports:
    800 and 1800MHz 4G / LTE
    900 and 2100MHz 3G / HSPA

You could just tether off your phone instead. Phone data bundles are cheaper than broadband with meteor.

Thanks Ten Pin, my phone is Vodafone and there is not a sniff of a signal down there. IT is provided by my job so I can't change. The €2.99 Meteor plan for 24 hours or €7.99 for a week are perfect for what I need

As answered already, You can use any sim if the device is unlocked, Bear in mind that you can use a phone sim in the device, it just has to be activated in a phone. For example, If you were to buy a meteor sim and top it up by €10, you could get 7.5GB to use for 30 days.
