Medical card pharmacy question

The mother and father are on tablets for life so every month pay the capped 25 to a chemist.

I went into another chemist to pick up a separate prescription for the mother. I was told they would charge me the full price of the item and to go to my own chemist

I thought with the medical card you can just by into any chemist and pay the 1.50 on each item?

The €25 ceiling is monitored by your own pharmacy only. There is provision for refunds if you have to pay for prescriptions from a different pharmacy.

What if I or my family pays more than €25 in a month?

The HSE will issue refunds automatically every six months, based on the information received from your pharmacy. However, you can avoid refunds altogether if you and your family visit a single pharmacy and your Pharmacist can identify all of your family members ...

Not all pharmacies are part of the GMS dispensing scheme, perhaps they are one of those that are not.
