Looking at a spreader as above and looking for opinions. I know Amazone have a strong following but don't know alot about them.

Don't know anything about them reggie but are you doing a bit of contracting as well? Would there be much demand for spreading fert in your area in the spring and autumn or even silage ground? If your budget could stretch to it a spinner with a decent capacity and gps could complement the bit of baling or whatever. Got lads in to do my silage ground this year and will probably get them again in early spring to blanket spread. I'd say most spinners at this stage are good enough once minded,

had one here for a short while after our 7bag yolk fell apart.
seems well built, but its all steal so it would need to be well looked after

Everyone in my area including myself change there amazon's to bogbelle about 10 years ago..we all agreed that the bogbelle was alot less prone to rust also easier and faster to set up...

Have one since new in 2006. Had to do bearings in gearbox this year. Good spreader but as another poster said, difficult to set.
I would have a good look at other makes if I'm buying again.

Have a 902 here with a cover. Traded in the auld Amazone which was here since 1983. Find it accurate and easy to calibrate as I use the amazone app and you just put in the width speed rate and make of fertiliser your spreading. However you need to keep it clean and wash it after every use. The shutters have a tendency to stick in closed position so keep it well oiled. I'd be slow to move from amazone and we looked at other brands when trading in the old spreader

I have a 1402. The worst thing about them is as another poster mentioned, the linkages seizing up. But if you open them up and WD40 hem every so often then it will run fine. They are made of good stuff. We had a 902 prior to the current one for about 20 years and never had to put a spanner to gearbox etc. Current one is more than 10 years old and the same story

Bought new one about 10 years ago, still going strong and it gets a lot of use. From what I can gather you'll keep it clean so it will last. Never a problem with it mechanically or in setting it up. The little ball joints on the linkages can seize up but as mentioned already the odd drop of oil will keep them perfectly in order. The regulators too even when new and tightened as much as possible by hand can slip during use so keep an eye on them. But once you're aware of it it's not an issue.
The only problem I have with it though is that low down in the hopper it splits in two, so for the last 100 kgs or so I often have to jump into it and even out the two sides. All in all though I'm happy with it.

    Lies!! I never changed..
I find it good, once you get used to it and also the settings app is pretty handy too.. they are prone to rust though.

The newer ones are supposed to be grand. One big advantage is they can be set from the back so no squeezing in between tractor and spreader.

Wouldn't you think that they'd have the brains to know going between the tractor and spreader is a big no no wit regards to health and safety

Was it a big job to do bearings in gearbox ,they dont look to easy to open the gearbox on.
They are a easy spreader to attach to tractor compare to the rauch anyway and you will see quickly if you are not spreading even as the the bottom of hopper has two compartments

Not a major job. A bit of heat needed to get the hubs off the shafts. Bearings and seals came to around €70 I think.

Going to look at her tomorrow all going well. It has a 1200kg capacity so will be heavy enough for the ground

I have one of them.its about 10 yrs old bought new.only thing that gives trouble is after a few yrs the handle for adjusting the flow is that it wears and needs replacing.can be awkward if you have spreader full.had to cut tru it to get to nut.like any machine if u keep it washed down regularly they will last.very little rust on mine so far

Here's another possibility. They had one at the tullamore show.
    Looked a good safe job.

He hasent seen it yet. He rathers the bulk spreader. Less hassle he reckons. Watched the young fella this year spreading and more was in the Ditch and onto the road than the field.

Gonna try taking over the fert spreading next year. Reckon FIL is wasting at least 3 or 4 ton a year
