Part of an upcoming Playstation VR game allows the user to grope a clearly uncomfortable woman on a beach despite her verbal protests.

Saw this earlier and genuinely surprised that this exists in this day and age. Did anyone involved not think this is a horrible idea.

The video in the link below starts off badly but the cringe factor goes through the roof when we see the user with the VR headset.

Yes. "VIRTUAL" reality. As in fake. As in, not real.

But its going to promote people to go to the beach and touch people inappropriately!

Just like dropping bananas out of your go cart to make the person behind you spin out.

    ....outraged!

It is a DOA game, the game that let's you change the jiggle settings for female characters breasts, it's hardly shocking.

Heard about this the other day. It's Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 3 right?

Look, this is the third game in the series. The other two didnt cause a stink but now because of "VR...ohhhh" - But what's happening is a repeat of the mid 1990's when games like Mortal Kombat caused a stir and even had US federal hearings (yes, the 16bit Mortal Kombat caused outrage! well.. that a night trap)

It again happened with Grand Theft Auto over 10 years ago and now the focus is on something else. It's just a bunch of people getting their knickers in a twist and the publishing companies of said games going with it as anything that gets a games name out there will sell.

There was also controversy in 2006 when RapeLay released. (NSFW content!)

Which is way worse, in my opinion as it has you...well... you can read the wiki article. Quite disgusting!

    Who remembers Man Hunt?

    Or the Carmaggedon controversy?

Those were the days. Then again, I haven't owned a console since the PS2, so these days could well be better...

If you think this is bad, wait til you see all the games in which you actually kill people! Society is surely doomed.

I recently played some bizarre game that I can only assume was inspired by a bad acid trip in which I played a dungaree-clad Italian plumber who went around jumping on the heads of creatures that looked like living mushrooms. Utter madness, Ted.

Always find it odd how outraged people get over stuff like this in games, i remember a while back people complaining about a glitch in GTA which allowed players to rape prostitutes, i mean yes rape is horrible but this is the same game where you torture someone or can blow their head off yet no outrage for those things. It's a game like movies or tv if you don't like it don't watch or play

But it would have been perfectly OK to kill her instead ?

Because you can do that n every first person shooter ever,

If you have satellite channel True Movies then if it isn't a depressing film about cancer or child abuse then it's probably a depressing film about rape "and no one would believe her" , where all rape myths are true and she ends up shooting the rapist after a complete failure by stereotyped "our hands are tied" law enforcement.

That sort of stuff offends me nearly as much as the "Poverty Porn" where you get bombarded by ads exploiting the suffering of real people in a world where extreme poverty could be eliminated if the 100 richest people paid either capital gains tax on their gains during the recession or paid the equivalent of USC and PRSI on non-earned income.

Guy in the UK last year was jailed for having drawings of Bart Simpson having sex. He admitted he was a pedophile but that cartoon porn was his outlet for those desires.

    Edit: found it.

Yet at the same time, many games prohibit damage against animals, because you know, animal cruelty and all that...
