Varicose veins complications

I went for surgery on my leg in early August. At the time, there was a recent inquest ongoing following a tragic death as a result of complications - blood clots on the lungs. I discussed this with the consultant at the time - to be honest I was freaking out about the surgery, which went grand - and he assured me that although there are risks to every medical procedure, I would be very low risk as a fit, healthy non smoker. I'm a male in mid 40s.

Fast forward to 3 weeks after the op - everything going grand until I wake up in massive pain and short of breath last Wednesday at 3am. Admitted to hospital and multiple clots found on both lungs - CAT scan, blood test, injected with anti clotting agent, monitored / treated overnight and discharged, I'm on xarleto a blood thinner for 6 months.

I alerted my consultant about this complication and was informed by his secretary that he'd be in touch - nothing as of yet. Am I wrong in getting a bit annoyed that he hasn't contacted me? I contacted his office last Thursday morning and no contact from him yet. I would have thought a fairly serious complication would at least warrant a phone call back.
