Do you have a question, or are you just trying to start another tedious "tsk tsk people in welfare" drinking game? There is no such thing as Lone Parents' Allowance. It was replaced by the One-Parent Family Payment in 1997. Each child after the first gets the recipient the princely sum of 29.80 EUR. I'm sure she can book her cruise now.

If you were serious about really wanting information, and not just indulging in the usual curtain-twitching gossip, you can find what you want here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/social_welfare_payments_to_families_and_children/one_parent_family_payment.html

Fair enough. Yeah, it is, but it really depends on whether she's sharing custody with the dad, whether he's contributing, and whether she has any other source of income. There are a lot of hoops and she may not get the full amount or all of the other associated benefits. Remember those amounts are maximum payments.

My view is that life is hard enough for those who have little personal resources, not just money, but a support structure, hope for the future, a good self-concept, good mental and physical health, and marketable skills. I've seen a whole family founder for lack of a place for the kids to be while the parents were at work. I tend to try not to begrudge them the basic payment they get from the taxes of people like me who are able to work and pay our own bills. I'd rather be me than them.
