Sheep Shed Feeding Options

    Hi,

Just in the middle of redoing my sheep shed.

Its not a lambing shed, more of a wintering shed.

It is 45 feet long and 55 feet wide.

Each side is 15 foot wide and going to be faced by 3 cormac sheep gates, leaving the middle free for bales to go 3 high.

It is a concrete floor (Just put in).

Each side has an access gate to the front.

Now, the question. How would you feed them?

Walk through feeders are not really an option.

Do I feed hay at the front, and through down plastic troughs on top for feed?

Feed them on the concrete and through in a couple of round feeder inside?

These are the front gates I have ordered.

Maximum 30, more than likely 20 ewes will be in each side

Probably feed meal on the concrete in the morning and then roll out the bale in front of them after,
I have those barriers and while an adult ewe can reach the floor to eat meal, the ewe lambs/small ewes need troughs about 2 - 3 ins off the ground.
If the whole 45ft is a single pen You don't need to put hay in front of the barrier for the full length.

Thanks Rangler. I was thinking the trough route but I can't seem to find any 15ft plastic troughs. I know more smaller would do the same but it would be a tad annoying

6'' Sewerage pipe cut in two along it's length is what some people use...need a steady hand with the angle grinder. I think they come in 20 fts
Have seen people use plastic gutters two but they're not great.
Local steel merchant here folds gutters to your design too in galvanise, just after getting them €170 for 90ft in 15ft lengths
You can screw them to timber for legs, any way there's some options
