I just got a Cambridge audio topaz Sr 20 and currently hooked up to sansui es 100 bookshelf speakers and sounds good..

I was curious what bookshelf speakers alternatives would you choose to partner the amp between 250 gbp and 500 gbp

    Hi dublinadil,

There are a couple of speakers I would recommend. First of all the Monitor Audio Bronze 2s which we have hooked up with a Cambridge amp in store. These speakers are £279 and won the What Hi Fi award for best bookshelf speaker up to £400:

However, Monitor Audio do another speaker at £500 which are quite possibly the best mid range speaker I've heard in store. They are the Silver 1s:

These speakers are incredible. In comparison with the Bronze 2s the soundstage is wider, the mid range is punchier, the detail in the treble is unreal and the bass is a lot tighter. They pair very well with the Cambridge as well.

Let me know what you think.

    Many thanks

    David

I heard silver 1 is a little bright sounding and fussy with placement

I have a small room and would like warm full sound even at low to medium volumes without worrying about placement

From playing them in the shop I haven't noticed any placement issues, however depending on what you match them with they can be a bit sharp for some. If you are looking for something warmer the Focals are very good. The likes of the Focal Chorus 706 would be a good alternative at £458:
