As per the thread title, I'm assuming its cheaper to get plates elsewhere rather than the nct centre when car clears vrt?

Motorfactors or most main dealers will have their own plate machine .....

Thanks but I wouldn't hand over a cent to a 'main dealer' if I could possibly help it.

Has anyone ordered up online and had them delivered?

Halfords do them too, just remember to take the blue removable film off so your not driving around looking like a plank.

For kicks, I gave them the option but they were somewhere between 3-3.5k more expensive - I bought off an independent in the UK.

I did a quick comparison out of curiosity.

    €20.95 - Eireplates
    €24.50 - Nowplates Dublin
    €25.95 - A-Z Plates
    €27.50 - irishnumberplates.ie
    €35.04 - FK Performance

All for a pair of pressed NCT spec plates. Didn't expect such a difference in pricing.

I got a pair of steel pressed ones in Parts for Cars for 20 quid before.

In Ireland? Usually a given N.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I got some in Halfords a few years ago they were around €15. Could be more expensive by now though. If I remember correctly you need the log book to show proof of ownership

    €15 each though?
Local motor factors did mine for €8 each.

did colm not say he can get them for 8 euro each.

Also do the online prices quoted include p+p ?

So has anyone figured out who's selling the cheapest legit Irish plates yet ?

Used motorparts.ie @ €7.95/plate (free delivery over €40 or otherwise €3.50 delivery). Had tried local place and they wanted €15/plate.

I have used Eireplates plenty and always found them great.
The pressed plates look far cleaner than laminated and you don't get separation of the laminate after a few years.

Very fast delivery and you see exactly what you are getting when you are ordering.
Don't forget to order the surrounds and fixing kits to make things very easy when fitting.

I wasn't too impressed by the quality of the plates given at the NCT centre - it seems the actual printing was done on the outer layer (like some sort of adhesive acetate) which doesn't sound very durable, and the edges of the layers were rough and not well-aligned so may peel after a few years. They didn't have any samples on display so it was hard to tell. Maybe they have different equipment at different centres (this was Blarney).
