Get into a call and press the volume up hardware button, if you still can't hear anything from the other caller, it could be one of a couple of things. Is there a bluetooth headset / speaker / car paired to the phone? Turn off bluetooth and try again. Did she accidentally turn on hearing aid mode? Settings > General > Accessibility

also check call audio routing, make sure it's on automatic and not forced to bluetooth headset.

Worst case scenario you could reset settings without wiping
