I'm on the look out for a new phone for my mother, her current nexus 4 is on its way out and should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Looking for something with a screen size up to 5 inches, budget of around 200 with a stretch towards 300.

My first thought was a Nexus 5x as she would be familiar with vanilla Android but I remember reviews of it weren't to positive and will it really last as long as her nexus 4 has?

Others that jumped to mind were the Huawei P8/P9 Lite, the later (like the nexus) slightly bigger than 5' which probably wont be a problem. How will these fair out for the next 2-3 years, will their spec be up for it?

There's also some Xiaomi phones withing the budget, Mi 4c, RedMi 3s, etc, but I don't really know much about their lower end phones.

I was hoping some Honor phones might be within budget but at a glance I can't see any.

I would rather stay away from the cheaper phones mentioned in Chinese android phones thread (I realize some of the above probably fall into that category?).

I have a oneplus two and would highly recommend it. Tough phone that's taken a few hots with no damage. Also very good software on top. I always recommend this phone when people are asking what to get. I've had good reviews of the oneplus three from friends but you'd probably find the two more in your price range.

I had the oneplus one myself which I replaced with my current oneplus x. Great phones but 5.5' is just to big for her, really has to be 5' max, maybe 5.2' at a push for the right phone.

Yeah the 5X isn't really futureproof due to the 2GB of RAM. It is a very good phone though. If she's not too fussed with really fast performance you won't get much better for under 300e.

What about the Oneplus X? Great phone for the price.

Or if you want to wait, the new HTC made Google phones will be out in Oct/Nov. There's going to be a 5" version with high specs although apparently they're going to cost more this time.

EDIT: Oh you have the Oneplus X. Any reason you wouldn't get the same for her?

WileyFox on offer on Amazon at the moment for 95...Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 has great specs too, and often comes down to 99 on Amazon.

I don't think I could wait really get birthday is in a few weeks, those HTC sound and look like something I might but myself though.

I really like the opx but it's got a very old hardware, how is it going to stand up to another 2-3 years of apps getting nite demanding? Likewise with the Wileyfox?
