Just handed in my MSc thesis (taught) a couple of days ago. Just wondering is there a university-wide date when results will be released??

There is a date all results from MSc degrees have to be handed to the exam board for ratification, off the top of my head I can't tell you what the date is but it's usually mid October. Conferral of degrees is in November.

If you require a provisional transcript for any reason, such as applications for funding or positions or whatever, you should contact your course director. I'm sure they would have no issues providing you with a provisional transcript that they can sign off on, at least until the exam board ratifies the results.

So will I get emailed my results in mid-October or will I have to contact them for results do you think?

Personally what happened is our class got an email from our course head saying congratulations and we all had passed after the exam board had met. I can't say if this is what happens to every MSc class, I don't know honestly. Obviously an official transcript will be sent out to your address, but if you'd like to know final results for everything, assuming you're not told - you could just email your course head and ask.
