Composite front door

I have had a composite front door installed. It is a top of the range door which I have bought through a Dublin shop specialising in them.

The door is out of alignment by 1.5mm and the sellers insist that this is perfectly okay. But it does make the door shudder - which they also say is normal.

Anyone else have any info on this?

Should it not be perfectly aligned with the door frame?

The door is composite and the frame is PVC. But it wasn't cheap. (over 3k)

I think they may be trying to pull the wool over my eyes by saying it's normal.

IMO that is not right. The door should be square if fitted properly.

Thanks Ejabrod, do you mean it should touch all sides of the frame? Not sure what you mean by "square" (I'm not being a smart-ass).

Is there a kind of accepted allowance for an ill-fitting door? The fitters told me that nobody's door is exactly flush with the frame - that they are always "out" a bit. Sounds like a bit of "who-shot-John" as Judge Judy would say.

I would love to hear from a fitter of composite doors. These companies would tell you black was white.

That is what is so brilliant about sites like this, it is bad for the rip-off merchants and good for the decent people of Ireland.

I don't mean it should 'touch' all sides but I would not expect a new door to 'shudder'.

IMO it should be perfectly aliged.

If you are not happy with it, demand that they either put it right or removed it and fully refund your money.

I have one of those composite doors in my house, and the installer / supplier at the time said to expect it to sag a little as it all settled in, and give them a call after a few months tgo tighten it up then.
So I did, they called out,a nd it's been fine for the last 3.5 years.

Shuddering sounds like it's damaging the door - could lead to warranty claims...
