Is it possible to combine separate tickets on Aer Lingus?

Rang Aer Lingus customer support about this twice and got two different answers.

I currently have a flight booked from Dublin to Boston at 4:20pm at the end of September. This flight is part of a larger itinerary booked on Expedia. The Aer Lingus flight is listed as a United flight operated by Aer Lingus.
I'll be in Tralee on the morning of the flight. I'd like to fly to Dublin to connect to the Boston flight. However it's not clear from Aer Lingus whether I'd be protected in terms of a misconnect due to a delay.

One agent said I would be since both flights are on Aer Lingus.
Another said I wouldn't as the two flights would not be on the same ticket.
Anyone here have experience of doing this before?
    Thanks.

You would not be automatically protected because they're different tickets. Maybe EI would look after you but that would be out of altruism not obligation.

Legally no, its two different tickets

If you have two tickets issued by Aer Lingus they will allow you to check bags through to final destination upon request, provided the time is sufficient for the connection

Since your ticket was sold by United its a bit grey if this is possible

Also flight connections in Dublin is for people on through tickets, 'self connecting' passengers will be refused and directed to the baggage hall

Just to clarify, I bought the entire ticket on Expedia, the Aer Lingus flight is coded as United.

If the flight from KIR to DUB is shown under the same reference as the DUB BOS then you are fine.

If they are under different references then its no go

Either the Aer Lingus website or United website will show all the flights on the ticket.

You cannot 'merge' a booking, Expedia would have to reissue the tickets with the extra flight this may nor may not be possible

I had an Aer Lingus flight to Heathrow recently connecting to a BA onward flight and I couldn't get them combined because of separate bookings. I tried both airlines to do it.

Update: I flew back to Boston there on Saturday.
I was able to check my bag through to the Boston flight.
The girl behind the counter at Kerry airport wanted an Aer Lingus ticket number for the Boston flight.
I didn't have this so she eventually just looked it up.
I was able to use the flight connections in Dublin.
I got a boarding pass for the Boston flight there.
Bag made it to Boston, all good!
