Just wondering if anybody has any flight advice, was watching the Ryanair website daily for the last month for flights for next summer to be released. I missed checking in yesterday and surprise surprise the flights are now indeed there. Round trip €250 per person but there are 6 of us in family! Should I book before increase further or do flight prices drop at any stage between now and June?!

i maybe wrong here but as the flights have only been released in the past few days i'm guessing that Ryanair would make prices real high, suck in the people who know no different and are eager to book, they should come down within a month

they will only go one way UP !!!!

I hesitated for a week last year and they went up by approx 100

Yep last year we weren't able to book them right away and had wait and by time we were ready to book they had more than DOUBLED in price !!!!! From €880 to €2200 for family if 5. This year we had put aside the rough price they were last time (allowed €1200) for 6 and the price is almost double what we had budgeted at €2890!! Don't know what to do :(

Heard a LOT of English people over in Tenerife this year commenting on how much more their flights had cost due to terror attacks across Europe. A lot more people apparently going to Spain and Portugal . Was delighted when I seen the prices were similar to last year for Tenerife
Not much use to you sadly
I don't think they will go down being honest
    I do this every year
    They only go one way

    Two words: Belfast. Skyscanner.

Flights are cheaper from Belfast because of exchange rate/parking etc and if you register your destination and dates on skyscanner they email you every time the cost goes up or down. I just checked Belfast to Reus Saturday to Saturday at end of June is €200pp

    Good call that

Another alternative is just fly to Barcelona El Prat and get the bus that goes direct to Salou - i think it still does the hotels also in the same way as the Reus airport bus does - i think

I think it was €15 per person

I tried looking up flights from Belfast last night but couldn't find any , what airline flies from Belfast to Reus?
We went the Barcelona way last time but was such a trek with kids in heat to Reus , we went with a taxi as had two babies , car seats etc cost €360! Was hoping avoid extra travel, if had to would prefer travel this end , will try Belfast option

I would wait ryanair flights are based on supply and demand and they ajust their flight prices to insure a set number of flights are sold at a given time in a runup to the departure. Research shows the cheapest time to buy is 5/6 weeks before departure but there is usualy good prices to be found 5 months before departure date. It will depend on where your going.

I fly a lot and I find the magic time before travel for booking is
    Ryanair 6 - 8 weeks
    Aer Lingus 5 - 7 weeks

It goes up all over the place before that, but rarely lower.
What they both tend to do too is give a certain price when flights are just released. Then keep putting them up for a couple of months after that, to give people a fright and make them think they have missed the boat and they better act now before they go up anymore.
The first price offered and then any other offered until about 8 weeks before travel time is usually at least 25% higher than the price you will get if you wait it out.

But most people will cave in and buy just in case it goes higher, which is exactly how the airlines want you to feel. They pay millions to find out how to produce that feeling in the customer.

    Jet2, Thomas Cook and Thomson.

God they are dicks!! I don't know if I could wait til 6 weeks before , the stress!! What if they decide not to come down , that would be just my luck. I will hold off for a while , no choice as I don't have the extra 1k they have added this year to book now anyway (see just my luck). Can always fly to Barcelona if they don't drop, would prefer not too as it was hassle with 4 in tow last year . Pity no other airline flies here and Ryanair have the monopoly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,540 ✭✭✭finbarrk

I don't think they will drop much. It's a popular route.

We are facing the same issue. A little off topic - but sparkplug what way did you book Cambrils? I've been searching availability on their website and its really difficult to use. It doesnt give any alternative availability if there is none for the dates I input. Should I just call them? I checked Eurocamp and Canvas, but they were quoting nearly double what booking direct was costing? I've never booked a campsite before - can you tell:o:o???

last few times I have been using airhint.com,works pretty good with Ryanair

as kookie has said, 6 - 8 weeks before for short haul budget airlines is usually the best time to book. Skyscanner and another comparison website actually did a comprehensive report on this. I can also verify that personally, I've had the best luck booking in this time frame.

Having said that, the one time where this doesn't necessarily ring true is sun destinations in the middle of summer and school holidays. Unfortunately, you're always gonna a fair bit on these flights as they will always fill them.

That said, to suggest that the price will definitely not drop at all in the next 9/10 months is hyperbole. They will undoubtedly go up, but they will come down again. They'll go up and down continuously until about the last 4 weeks when they'll only go up. The only thing you can do is keep checking and hope it gets to a price you're comfortable with. If you can be somewhat flexible with your dates, even better. If you can be flexible with your destination, better again.

Just curious how ye got on with the flights ? Want to book Cambrils for 2018 and will be flying so wondering about the flights and when to book ?

    Thanks in advance

Don't take this advice of 5-7 weeks or whatever for sun holidays, I find it's never accurate, generally only works for the UK and mainland/non-holiday Europe.

Booked flights myself for 5 in the first week of January, they have now increased from an even €1000 to a lovely €2088.

My advice for June/July/August, don't book when they come out, book when nobody else is booking, basically after Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭aquarius10

Thanks for that I'll keep an eye on the prices when they come out for 2018 but hope not to pay more than €180 a head return

OK update ! I think we are screwed !!! I STUPIDLY loaned money to my brother last August and despite promise after promise didn't get the cash back , it was promised by Christmas flights were perfect had dropped from 2.5K to 1.5K , perfect , no money ! Now they have gone up to €3450 !!! I don't know what to do. Waiting out for another while and may just have to forfit holiday and loose deposit. Moral of my story DO NOT LOAN MONEY TO BROTHERS !!

On another note someone was asking about booming with Cambrils Park, I agree their online booming system is crap ! They upgraded their website and it looks great but their booming system is still terrible. Just ring them they are grand to deal with over phone. I booked with travel agent before and we were stuck in the grottiest dingiest area of whole place . Literally the place is spotless and really well kept all except for this corner. Talking to others it seemed to be anyone who booked through Alfresco that ended up in this block . So be ware .

    Hi all,
Looking at booking flights for 2018 to Reus! Just wondering how things went this year re flight prices etc. When were they released and when did people get good value! We are a family of 7 so need to keep the costs down if at all possible! What is a decent return price per person to pay for these flights!

    Thanks in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,474 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Prices really vary massively depending on when you're going and from year to year. Although no harm to hear from others!

If you're looking now, keep in mind Ryanair have not put any of the summer schedule on sale yet despite announcing it (very strange and rather stupid thing to do imo), so you can't book flights with them yet.

Ok, that sounds good! How many were you booking for? I'm guessing you had your accommodation booked well before then though?

Also, I'm looking at booking a 3 bed apartment in a holiday site with 25 apartments sharing a decent sized pool just outside Cambrils, in the Oasis Mar area. Anybody have any experience of this area, restaurants, supermarkets, beach(says were only 80 mts from the beach), pubs, typical holiday makers (stag & hen and boozers or quiet family folk!)
    Cheers

Just myself I was staying with a friend by Salou port they were actually dearer the flights but Ryanair had a summer sale 20% so I prob got lucky tbh,

I've been to Cambrills a lot of times lovely quiet spot very different than Salou never seen any bother down there, Salou at night get busy as you'd expect with a younger crowd, I've also stayed the opposite side of Salou in La Pineda beautiful family resort.

Ya, very expensive for July and Aug! I wonder if that's just the initial release price that may come down around xmas/new yr! Lovely flight times though 10:50 - 14:20 on way out and 14:50 - 16:20 on way home! No ridiculous o'clock airport journeys for us living in the west! This is a bonus for me (traveling with 5 kids aged 9-2) and is worth paying a little extra for! Will still wait awhile to see if they come down a little!

Hardly expect them to be every day for a new route from a somwhat regional airport!

Not showing that expensive for me, they're fairly normally lead in fares for a distant summer. Should drop a bit in the next few months.

Was hoping to get something similar for our planned trip at the end of June 2018 - total of 7 passengers. I am however only seeing similar prices if not taking the direct option. For example fly to UK and then from there to Reus. Seems to be a lot more expensive flying direct from Ireland.
Any major pitfalls in breaking up the journey like this?

We flew shannon/stanstead and stanstead/reus this year. We had a 3 hour layover both times as per schedule. Flying out was fine if a little drawn out. Coming back however our first flight was delayed by hour and a half and only for the second flight also ended up being delayed we would have been in trouble I'd say.

Worked out more than half the cost of flying direct (family of 5) but, to be honest, I'd pay the extra and fly direct for less hassle and a lot less travel time next year.

10 days in July - Luton to Malaga for £173 for 5 - 2 Adults - 3 Kids. Get DUB to Luton nearer the time, Barcelona would be similar - Been doing this for several years via London or Manchester to Spain and never an issue.
Did get Delayed once for 5 hours from Gatwick to Barcelona but got €1,250 compensation for the 5 of us having only paid £240 for the flights in the 1st place!
