I have just changed my broadband from eir to sky.
I want to continue using my @eircom.net email account set up in Outlook.
How do I change the email account settings in Outlook so that it goes through Sky servers?
    Any advice appreciated.

You need to change your SMTP servers to Sky.

    smtp.tools.sky.com

Eir don't authenticate SMTP but last time I checked Sky do, so you have to enter sky credentials in order to send. Call sky to retrieve these.

    .

But theres a few other settings that I don't know how to set. Tried but doesn't work. I was hoping someone knew the settings, so I would not have to ring Sky and hold for 30min...

OK, I have eventually solved this.
You first have to change SMTP server settings as per previous post, instructions here -https://www.sky.com/help/articles/get-emails-on-your-windows-desktop-client

But I was still getting an error message -
    Server Error: 553
Server Response: 553 From address not verified

TO solve this, you have to verify eircom.net address by editing Settings in your Sky email- instructions here - https://www.sky.com/help/articles/changing-your-account-settings-in-sky-yahoo-mail#9aece7a2e1-send-emails-from-another-account

Glad you got it sorted, not a Sky sub so I'd never followed that procedure.

As a side note, the reason why they do this I suspect is because their service is white label BT and they can't just limit their SMTP to their own network as that would include all BTI end users and not just Skys (A problem for spam mitigation).

An alternative is to send mail via the google outgoing mail server.

You will need an gmail account to authenicate with their smtp server. The advantage over setting it to SKY stmp is that it will never matter what provider you are using. It should always work.

Additionally, if you ever use it on your phone , tablet, laptop etc., it will not matter what network/provider you are using.
