    Will post the text below:

my question is, if the referendum was about marriage equality, is publishing this information not a form of discrimination as it should no longer be split out?

"More than 180 same-sex marriages were registered in the first three months of 2016, according to the CSO’s latest quarterly vital statistics – the first full set since new marriage legislation came into effect.
The number of marriages registered in the first quarter of 2016 was 3,539, of which 186 were same-sex marriages.
The figure is likely to be higher in subsequent quarters because, although civil partnership is no longer available for same-sex couples, couples who had given the required three months’ notice of a civil partnership prior to November 16th, 2015, were still entitled to have the ceremony after that date."

    Publishing factual data isn't discrimination.

The data is collected because it it is of interest.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    .

Not discrimination. Just stats breakdown. Not the same thing.

It's no more discrimination than saying how many marriages were celebrated in Cork or Longford; average ages of spouses; whether they were religious celebrations or civil marriages, and so on.

It's just one of a number of breakdowns of the headline figure.

Its not discrimination its statistics. I don't see how this piece of information could be in any way shape or form construed as offensive to gay people. If we say one thousand people over age 50 got married last year its not discriminating against older couples now is it.

Sounds like a very crowded marriage.

    What? Where is the discrimination?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Surprised there is not more to be honest. All those couples who wanted to marry for years now finally have the chance. Would have thought it would a crazy amount by now.

180 seems like a lot to me.

No everyone can just "get married"

Yes, equality certainly has its drawbacks in that people are treated equally and afforded equal rights.

It's probably just the novelty of something so new.
Now, can we get back to bashing Muslims please?

Well in 2011 there were 4,000 gay and lesbian couples were living together in Ireland. So considering that, 180 is quite a lot in 3 months I think.

    I get what you're saying.
All I meant was that after years of trying to get it in you would think there would be a higher number by now :)

All the civil partners get upgrades.

Well you have to factor in the amount that just said theyd like to get married just to keep the peace :) " of course I'd marry you hon, it's just such a shame this bloody backwards country won't let us " followed by the realisation that you might expected to follow through now and have to weasel out :)

I would have thought it would have been more - given the backlog of same-sex couples looking to tie the knot - some have been waiting years and years. I'm happy for them. I'm still single (after a couple of long term relationships) and I wish them the best. I'd love, one day, to be counted among their number.

By the way the stats collection is in no way homophobic - why would anyone think that?

180 in 3 months is a lot IMO. The first marriages only took place in November, and if I recall correctly, those were upgrades from civil partnerships, as no one was sure when the legislation would go through due to those stupid appeals. You only had to give 5 days' notice when upgrading. As a result, couples who weren't previously in a civil partnership would have had to give 3 months' notice same as hetero couples do. So we're talking a window of mid Feb-March really for those not in a position to upgrade.

Plus many of the more popular registry offices have long enough waiting lists to get a date, and may well have been at capacity already. Others may have wanted to mark an anniversary or important occasion by getting married on a particular date later on in the year, or do it at a time that isn't Feb or March, which isnt exactly peak wedding season. Or some folks might have wanted to give friends and relatives a bit more notice for a party. Xmas weddings seem really popular due to emigrants returning home for visits anyway at that time of year. Also, humanists can conduct ceremonies legally, but they have a massive backlog too and that might impact couples wanting to have a humanist ceremony.

Does anyone know if the legislation recognises same-sex marriages conducted outside the state prior to its enactment or do couples affected have to marry in Ireland too?

If your same-sex marriage was legally recognised by the law of the place where it was celebrated, then it's legally recognised in Ireland too. There is no need to have a second wedding ceremony or register your foreign marriage certificate in Ireland or anything like that; recognition is automatic.

If your foreign marriage was celebrated before 16 November 2015 (when the Irish legislation marriage equality legislation came into operation) then it's recognised in Ireland from 16 November 2015. If it is celebrated after that date, it's recognised in Ireland from the date of celebration.

If they apply for the upgrade. It's not automatic.

I'm sure some mightn't even be into the idea of marriage but just wanted the right to have one, like everybody else.

Well I was one of those campaigning for Marraige Equality. I am gay, but single. I'm delighted for my gay friends that have married, and one day, hopefully Dr Wright,..., sorry Mr Right, 😜, will come along and I'll join the stats

But to expect all the gays to shack up or they are against Marraige equality is ridiculous
