Surprised by lack of thread for this (at least none I could find) but went to see it today and was very pleasantly surprised.

It's a completely different story to the old Disney version, so if you're expecting another live action Disney remake a la Jungle Book, you're in for a surprise.

Instead it's a much more mature film, a big hint of Where the Wild Things Are, but much better. The casting is good and solid, the story moves along brisk enough with a nice mix of tear jerker, humour and exciting moments - although not really kiddie enough for my 3 year old, it actually had more of an impact on me.

And top marks for the Dragon itself, it looks great despite its 'magical' abilities, although maybe it's a bit too Shaggy Dog character. It still creates a chemistry with the live actors.

Are there any scary parts in there that would spook a 3 year old? I am looking for something to bring ours to. Not much new on at the moment for that age group.

Yes, right at the start. The parents are killed in a car crash (nothing really seen except the car on it's roof) but then Pete is chased away by wolves.

As I said I brought my 3 year old to it, and beyond that scary bit there's not much to it, except that there wasn't enough to hold her attention. There's a lot of time spent with Pete trying to figure out family, talk of social services etc that went way over her head and lead to a lot of fidgeting. An 8 year old would probably love it more (and parents).

MInd you she'd no tantrums, and neither did any of the other young kids in the cinema. So if you've seen everything else, I'd recommend it still, just hold off on some treats til to middle bit to distract them then, and the Dragon at the start and end will do the rest

That sounds a bit Roald Dahl!

    Thanks for the advice.
