Instead of forking out money for an imported system, could I just buy this for my own PAL one?

Apparently it lets you load up GC games from other regions. I'm not very well up on it but if it does what I think it does I might consider going for one.

I don't have many games for my Cube but having something like this would definitely entice me to buy more.

Is it worth getting? And how does it behave when it comes to refresh rate? (50hz/60hz)

They do what they're supposed to do, not sure about backups though. If I were you, I'd pick up a GC compatible Wii, & softmod it with USB Loader GX. That'll let you play your GC games, force 60Hz if required, install them to hdd, and all other sorts of coolness. The Wii is essentially a slightly beefed up Gamecube anyway, the compatibility with the GC is excellent.

Something I've never thought of doing either. I'll pop into CeX in the next couple of weeks and have a look - my local store has loads of Wiis for dirt.

Just make sure it has the 4 GC controller ports on it, then you're good to go. I've mine softmodded, and dumped my whole Wii & GC collection on an attached usb drive...so you can browse them at will, with scraped artwork etc.

Probably pick one up for pittance on Adverts with a few games and controllers.
Then just soft mod as Myrddin says.
Jap GameCube game boxes are fantastic btw.

Softmodded my Wii ages ago for USB loading.
At the time you couldn't USB load GC games - has this changed?
If so, I may revisit it.
