    The main pieces:
Amongst the many announcements, it was confirmed that Newstalk’s Pat Kenny will bring his unique and authoritative style of journalism to the station this autumn, anchoring a new landmark current affairs programme on Wednesday nights, alongside TV3’s Colette Fitzpatrick.

Comedian and actress Deirdre O’Kane and Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan will be the narrators behind Gogglebox when it airs on TV3 later this month. The show promises an eclectic mix of characters that audiences will both love and love to hate,

Originated drama and documentaries continue to be a major focus for TV3 with six new productions premiering on TV3 this Autumn. They include Mammal, Emily, Cardboard Gangsters, A Date for Mad Mary, It’s Not Yet Dark and Fourth Act.

TV3’s hit drama Red Rock has been given a new home on Monday nights.

Living With Lucy’ is back as TV3's Lucy Kennedy heads off to share space, life and conversation with a host of well-known celebrities in their own homes.

TV3 also confirmed Robin Gill and Daniel Clifford as the new judges on the hit format Celebrity Masterchef.

"David McWilliams returns to TV3 on Sunday afternoons with business show ‘Agenda’. The programme will feature high profile international guests, make economics understandable and relevant to its audience and offer fresh insight and analysis from its presenter David McWilliams every Sunday.

From Monday 5th September Vincent Browne returns to our screens with his unique nightly take on affairs of the nation in ‘Tonight with Vincent Browne’, now at the earlier time of 10.30pm."

McWilliams had a show with the same name on TV3 until about 2004, that's a blast from the past.

I haven't watched Vincent in years, is that a promotion or was he getting cranky staying up so late?

I hope Pat and Colette gel a bit better than they did on the GE16 Debate...

In drama, Small Town which begins tomorrow night sounds promising.

He seems very much a creature of the night. I'd say it's more to do with attracting guests onto the show.

Think it's more to do with the way TV3 position their shows after News @ 8 to VinB - in particularly trying to not position shows against the beast of RTE News At 9. They're now probably positioning their big shows at 9:30pm, leading into 10:30 with VinB. Mon has Red Rock, Tue has CL, Wed has Kenny & Fitzpatrick, Thurs possibly Celeb Masterchef.

So two bought in formats (Gogglebox & Masterchef) and resurrecting TV careers of Kenny & McWilliams. A lot of imagination there.
Lucy Kennedy will be sharing the homes of Republic of Ireland footballer Shane Long, singer Kerry Katona and comedian Al Porter as part of her returning show, Living with Lucy.

Lucy Kennedy and Al Porter in one show. Thats one to avoid at all costs.

For me, the most original and interesting looking thing they have made is Smalltown. It doesn't even get a mention in that blurb. It's got Pat Shortt in a straight role, written and directed by Gerard Barrett. Should be worth a look.

    Smalltown looks very depressing

Not sure about the Red Rock time, perhaps for the moment. Interest to see what happens when Coro St and Emmers turns. Interesting to see how many of their shows actually air, last time many of the announcement never made it to air.

Looks like they have more money to burn now with the takeover by Virgin Media.

Well TV 3 badly needed to do something between 9 and 11 , whats been on there has been an insult to any normal persons intelligence.

Pat Kenny I'll likely avoid as I hate the way he finishes peoples responses , though I'll probably tune in to see if himself and fitzpatrick do any better than GE debate.

When TV3 try to do anything current affairs though even the news it seems amateurish and it's not a dig at the staff (well not all of them) that comes form the top.

Small town im interested in , Pat Short playing it straight can be great.

    Here's the Irish Times article:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-radio-web/pat-kenny-makes-return-to-screens-with-new-tv3-show-1.2774476

Not often you see TV3 reviving its own shows - so it's a pretty big surprise to see Agenda back. Wonder if it'll continue to use Massive Attack's "Teardrop" as the theme tune? :D;)

I don't think anyone can disagree that Red Rock's move to once-a-week at 9:30 suggests that Corrie will be back on the channel sooner than later. As for Xpose returning to its original 30-minute duration... that must be clearing the way for the return of Emmerdale as well, right? :D;)

The zero mention of 3e seems a bit odd. Maybe the channel will be merged with UTV Ireland and be renamed something different in a few months. The channel itself is offering nothing new and different compared to TV3.

If they do that they will lose a massive amount of the audience share that each channel hold between them. Even if they decide UTV Ireland becomes 3e+1. Very little detail overall much less their their usual announcements.

Yep definitely a very low key autumn schedule. There were 3 times the amount of new programmes in last years release (albeit half were never produced shown)

Oh yeah, I agree that they should leave it to three channels, but they can barely control 2 at the moment. The 3e schedule is an utter mess at the moment. I keep going on about it but having 3 hours of Tipping Point from 4pm-7pm is pure lazy scheduling. There are Monday bank holidays where they show Ireland AM's previous edition from Friday. Xpose repeats are thrown in everywhere and films are repeated every few days. They need to divide up the channels, give 3e a head of programming or something to allow it have it's own identity.

How much do foreign dramas cost to buy? There's some great stuff on the BBC4 Sat night and More 4 Friday night. Plus all the Walter Presents stuff on C4/All 4.
Throw some of those on midweek nights ... anything bar Tipping Point and Keith Lemon!!!

Looking forward to Pat Shortt's series. I have the first episode recorded from last night. He is a good actor as well as comedian and can get to the heart of real life people whether he is doing it serious or doing it as humour.

I won't be watching the other Pat (Mr Kenny) though! The last thing we need is another version of the bloomin' Frontline only on a different channel and a different night. Pat Kenny is well past the sell by date at this stage.

With Colette hosting alongside him, I reckon it'll be closer to Midweek than to The Show That Ruined Seán Gallagher. ;)

BTW, have you noticed what it says near the end of that IT article?
And through co-financing arrangements with independent producers and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the channel appears to have become the platform of choice for showing acclaimed Irish-made feature films such as A Date for Mad Mary, begging the question of why RTÉ doesn’t do the same.

    ;););)

Is that meant to be My Name is Emily, I wonder? It's Not Yet Dark is the documentary about Simon Fitzmaurice who directed My Name is Emily, so it would tie in.

Not sure what Fourth Act is but the rest are all Irish films, fairly recent ones in the case of Mad Mary and Cardboard Gangsters.

All in all it's a pretty decent line up from TV3. Someone mentioned it seemed like quite a low key launch, not a lot of new things, but maybe they're trying to focus on quality over quantity, which would make a nice change from RTÉ.

Largely speaking TV3 are put forward as the broadcaster so that the producer can receive money out of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, The Irish Film Board will also be involved in many of these types of productions. With some bought from film distributors.

    Cardboard Gangsters had BAI funding
My Name is Emily had IFB funding
A Date for Mad Mary received both BAI and IFB funding

TV3 possibly paid broadcast rights and maybe a little more. You may find next year TV3 doing little and the following year having more.

I know TV3 haven't made any of these things, they've just bought the rights to show them. My point was that they're at least spending their money on Irish productions and seemingly making an effort to improve their output.

Sounds like an extended episode of Love/Hate. It didn't seem to get much buzz from the Galway Film Fleadh either, quite a few other Irish features went down better.

I'm sure it will get a bit more attention nearer it's release date. Given the subject matter and what's going on in Dublin it's bound to get some sort of press coverage, even if it's only some auld ones ringing up Joe Duffy to complain.
