I think anyone doing this is nuts( I didn't say it to the person though )

Would you take a job in the public service/civil service paying 22/23k approximately and commuting from somewhere like Longford or Athlone to Dublin. They know they haven a hope of getting a similar job locally and think its worth it in the long run.

Worth it in the long run how? Career prospects? Not sure what grade pays 22/23, co is just under 21.

Anyway, how does it affect you? If they think it's worth it, why not let them off?

It was just a conversation, but that kind of commute is hard going long term.

If they haven't a hope of getting similar locally it's not worth it. Only way it would be was if they could apply for a transfer to a more local office. Commuting is not easy believe me as a 100 mile commuter every day it affects your life it eats your money and wrecks your car.
