    Hi,

I have a creaky stairs and landing - no amount of wood glue nails or screws has had an impact the downside of plywood I guess. Am going to replace the carpet - one with underlay. Is there a type of underlay that anyone can recommend?

    thanks,

    Kevin

12mm. This is about the thickest you can get. Will definitely dampen a creaking stairs. Plus the obvious benefit of being very soft underfoot.

Take this opportunity to fix the steps once and for all when you have the carpet up. Underlay will work for a while but the creaking will return. I have found the screwing the nose of the thread to the riser underneath works well.
