Saving for the dream car - advice

    Hi all,

Finally in a position whereby I can start saving for the dream car. Now in fairness the ultimate dream is a Lambo Gallardo but that is more of a reach to be honest!

No the mid term dream car is a BMW Z4. Just wanted one from the minute I seen them first and might in a position in about 2 years to buy one.

Now the reasonable part of me says save the 40-50k and buy it new. But the more impatient part of me is saying get a used one that is not too old and pay half the price in a quicker amount of time.

So just want to see what your thoughts are from the people who may have been down this road.

    New you'll be looking at €50k :)
Very little/no second hand options in the 3/4 year old age group but when they do pop up or if you import you could get a good one for €30k no doubt.

There's less to depreciate too of course with the 2nd hand option.

It's a very personal thing how much one wants to spend on a car when they can afford to spend more than they need to, nice position to be in :)

I know me being me I'll get impatient and go the second hand route.

Nice. Which engine preference are you looking at?

2.0 probably need to take potential insurance costs into consideration as well.

I don't know; if you are spending 50k on the car it doesn't seem logical to settle for the worst engine option because of insurance costs. Surely a 3.0 wouldn't be that bad to insure?

That's a fair point mate didn't really think about it like that.

They're a fine looking car but I really think it would be a more enjoyable car with the bigger performance engine. Yes, tax and fuel consumption is likely to be higher and perhaps insurance too, but it's your dream car after all so enjoy it.

At least the introductory straight 6, theres a 2.5 isnt there, might be the best of both worlds!

Having said that id take the turbo 4 over the NA 6 but that probably an unpopular opinion in the land of BMW ownership :P
