Funny...or perceptive...takes on the Irish

We often see or hear of bad representations of the Irish, some comedian like Jim Davison depicting us as thick, some news report on a bar in Australia banning Irish drinkers etc.

Any amusing or funny, or indeed serious but insightful, takes on us as a people or a country? I'll start with this one from Lee Mack, who says his wife is from an Irish family, on the complexity of our names and spelling...

I'd say we\re pretty much the exact opposite to that W. One of the more compliant authority respecting cultures there are IMHO. When we're living here of course. Overseas we can change and we'll often kick stuff off alright.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

It's weird but we're like this on some things and not on others. The reaction to the changes to provisional licenses a few years back was hilariously Irish. "What do you mean I'm not allowed to drive on the license I'm not supposed to be driving on anymore? I have to drive from Donegal to dublin every day for work. Why do you take a test? I'm not doing that. Waste of time and money sure I'm grand on the road!"

We have a unique ability to be simultaneously very proud and modest at the same time.

Grand, meaning a person of high rank and behaving in an appropriately proud or dignified way to meaning "I'm ok, Im alright"
