We are thinking of going to Sicily next April or May for two weeks either flying into Comiso or Palermo or flying into one and out of the other. I assume we need a car. We like some beach, nice walks, cultural sights and nice food. Can anyone give me some pointers for places to stay, what to see and nice restaurants.

Taormina is fantastic. The town itself is beautiful with lots to do and packed full of excellent restaurants. It is also on the foot of Mount Ethna which is worth touring. Very near Taormina is the town of Savoca where The Godfather was made and looks exactly the same as the movie. We were there a few years ago and Etha was errupting which was some sight at night from Taormina.

Erice is gorgeous. You can park in Trapani and get the cable car up the hill to it. Lovely restaurants where you can sit outside and balance your chair on the cobbles - just people watch! We stayed in Alcamo - nothing there really however Castellmere del Golfo is a lovely little town and Scopello also - just a drive away. Some of Oceans 12 was filmed in the region.
