    Hi All,

    Quick question for you all.....

So I got a call from a recruiter about a job which turns out to be my dream job in an ideal location.

Problem is money is a bit less than my current salary.....

However I noticed that the company has the job advertised on their website with HR email address.

I am thinking that I might be able to squeeze more money out of the employer if I apply directly right? I know they might not budge but I would be in a better position moneywise if I apply directly.

Or am I looking at this all wrong?

I'd apply directly if I were you! Recruitment consultants often add an unnecessary layer of complexity in my opinion. Advice I've had from career advisor is to go direct to hiring manager whenever you can. Best of luck, hope you get your dream job!

The other consideration is, if it's a permanent role, they're paying you base salary of X and paying the recruiter anywhere from 13-25% of X on top. If you ask for more salary, you're also asking them to pay even higher fees to the agency.

If you apply directly, the company saves a ton of money compared to if you come through an agency. And that's why direct candidates will always be hired over agency candidates of equal suitability.

Agency Recruiters are great if they're actively using their connections to get you in with a company or opportunity of interest, or if they're fully handing all recruitment for that employer.

But if the company is also advertising the role and accepting direct candidates, that route will usually be in your own best interests.
