Contractor insurance

    Hi,

My sister is getting her attic converted and got a well respected local contractor to do the job.

During the job the builder himself injured his hand with an electric saw. Nothing life threatening but serious non the less.
The contractor has had other trades in performing their jobs etc and is the named contractor on the council planning application.

She has never asked him to prove his insurance credentials although he said at the start of the job that he has it. She assumed this to still be the case.
She's worried now incase she might be liable in some way and doesn't want to raise the issue with the contractor for fear of drawing attention to it.

    Who is liable here?

    Thanks
