Electric Fence - Ideal Height

I am putting up some high tensile fencing wire at the moment. It will be along the outside ditches. Mainly for suckler cows, calves and the odd bull.
Teagasc recommend a height of 1100mm for the top wire and 600mm for the lower one (See last page on the attached). 1100mm seems a bit high to me. The Gallagher pigtail posts are only 900mm.

What would you consider the ideal height?

I think it's the four stranded stuff he's using ;)

I think I'll either have to get rid of blondes or else go to 3 strands. One of their pesky calves cleared 2 strands and ploughed through a hedge to get back to momma last week. I'd have difficulty clearing the 2 strands myself, never mind the hedge. Top strand is over a metre.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Ideal height in inches = (your height in inches divided by 2) less the length of your willy

Didn't bother with the lower wire here the last few years when replacing fence. Single wire about 900mm and I have no calves running under it. But she's lighting 9.9 on the tester.

The hedge cutter seems to like attacking the lower wire.

Usually put the top wire at hip height and bottom one at knee height. If only cows larger dry stock don't bother with the bottom wire disaster for weeds earthing it out

Single strand around crotch height here and rarely trouble once there's power in it! Handy for the hedge cutter as they have enough room to work under it and it takes a while before it earths out.
One bit was done a bit higher and ended up with a second lower strand and it was a disaster for earthing

If your measurements are accurate maybe you should start practicing the high jump or start taking a well known blue pill designed to keep the blood flowing anytime you might want to cross an electric fence.
