    I will be getting some ortho work done here in Ireland.

    Anyone got a simple guide or advice on how the tax back works etc?

    Revenue.ie-> PAYE Anytime
    Med 2 option, input amount
    Make sure you get the med 2+ receipts

    iirc you can only claim in the following year to your payment, so if you pay 5K this year, you can claim 1K in 2017

    Thanks

    What exactly am I claiming back?
    Plus do you get cash??? Or do you get tax relief??

    i.e. If I pay €3k in September 2016 to the dentist, what am I getting back and when?

    Sorry, I know these are silly questions :(

    You get 20% back, so 600 euro from Jan of 2017

    Im trying to remember, I used to get cash but i think the lat couple of times its been tax relief but im not sure why (may be a question for the taxation forum!)

    eeguy has it right, you can claim once we're in the new year, its pretty quick if its cash 5-10 days from what i recall

    Once you open the paye anytime portal, you'll see an option for your reliefs for 2016 and you can update them, select the med 2 option and fill in payment details.

    Please do keep receipts.. I have been audited twice by revenue!

    You will get a refund in 2017 either by cheque or bank transfer. Make sure you have paid tax in 2016 as you will only get the tax back if you have paid tax in 2016. No tax paid in 2016 no tax refund in 2017

    Mine was bank transfer. Set up a PAYE on demand account on the revenue website and you can put your bank details in.

    Once the forms go through the money appears quick enough. You can also get a P21 balancing statement to see if you're due any tax refunds. It's always nice to get a few hundred quid back;)
