Got cheap aer lingus flights for a week in Lanzarote at end of January. Group of three adults going over.

I've never been to Lanzarote so looking for recommendations of areas to stay or accommodation. I read that the south of the island tends to get the better weather that time of year. Booking com has too many options!! Any personal recommendations for accommodation? Looking for somewhere with a few nice restaurants and bars near a beach and/or with a good pool.

    Thanks :)

We stayed in Puerta del Carmen last year and it was lovely, with lots of nice pubs & restaurants. The quiter end is around the old port where we stayed.

Are you looking for a hotel or a self-catering apartment? It's always hard to make a recommendation for others without knowing their criteria, budget and standard of accommodation they are looking for.

Thanks. Probably self catering or b and b. 4 star or thereabouts.

One of these days I'll get accused of being a shill, but I'm going to go ahead and recommend Costa Sal in Matagorda. You can do B&B there if you like for a small supplement and it's a super spot.

Only drawback is it's not in the main resort, but a €5 taxi ride from it. That said, there are loads of restaurants within easy walking distance and some good bars. The restaurant on site is really good too.

In the south of the island, Playa Blanca is the only resort. It's not as busy as Puerto del Carmen but it's nice enough. You get some regulars in PB who would tell you to avoid PdC and vice-versa, but they're much of a muchness really. Just two decent resorts. This caught my eye: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/h10bahiablanca.en-gb.html?label=gen173nr-1FCAEoggJCAlhYSDNiBW5vcmVmaGmIAQGYAS64AQbIAQ7YAQHoAQH4AQuoAgM;sid=9dfbb83e05043e77bf8713f5c61efd87;all_sr_blocks=9060816_92133210_3_1_0;checkin=2017-01-07;checkout=2017-01-14;dest_id=-396946;dest_type=city;dist=0;group_adults=3;group_children=0;highlighted_blocks=9060816_92133210_3_1_0;hpos=1;no_rooms=1;req_adults=3;req_children=0;room1=A%2CA%2CA;sb_price_type=total;srfid=0ebe69a967700a0219fb30625adc58499902e96bX1;type=total;ucfs=1&

Ignore the dates, I was just trying to get an idea of the prices and for the money this represents exceptional value, I reckon! It's really well located for one of the best beaches (if not THE best beach) on the island too.

Big problem is, if you're looking to keep costs down, someone will have to sleep on a sofa bed.

For self-catering in the general Puerto del Carmen area and I would include Matagorda in that, Costa Sal is always very popular. There is also Floresta in Los Pocillos which is close to the beach. You can either walk from there along the promenade into Puerto del Carmen or get a taxi. Walking is probably about twenty minutes to the start of the New Town in Puerto del Carmen but it's along the seafront and very easy if you have no mobility problems.

You could also take a look at Club del Carmen in Los Pocillos. These are in a very good location close to the start of the New Town. Most of their apartments have been upgraded but even the older ones are of high standard as they are timeshare where the available ones are advertised to everyone. The standard of a lot of timeshare apartments often can be higher than their rating.

Up the other end of Puerto del Carmen and the start of the Old Town/harbour area is Los Fariones. It's a hotel but their self-catering apartments are not far from the hotel. This area is a very good location.

You could also look at Playa Blanca which is very popular and the other resort in the south is Costa Teguise.

We're going back to Puerto del Carmen for the third year.

It all really depends on what you like.
We like eating out and Puerto del Carmen has the widest selection of restaurants.
There's two sides, the old town and new town.
We prefer the old town side of things, so that's where we stay.
    Everything's in walking distance.

Be aware that it's quite hilly.
The accommodation is generally uphill going home.
I believe the new town is flatter but we haven't stayed there.

You mention you like a nice pool.
I think only four pools on the whole island are heated, I stand to be corrected on this.
Some of the pools are the one depth both ends so you might want to check that out.

Last year we found it too warm around the pool so went to the beach everyday.
    There are two main beaches.
A smaller one on the old town and bigger one in the new town.
    Both lovely.
Be aware you've to rent the sunbeds and parasols.

The layout of all apartments seem to be the same.
I think really you're paying more for the complex facilities.
Eg we viewed the Farionees which are 100 a night. The apartment itself wasn't much different to a two star. But it's halfway between the old and new town with 3 or four pools and the complex is bigger etc.

I wouldn't recommend the place we stayed in last year, only thing going for it was the location and view. It was quite dirty and grimy. Probly unfair of me to mention it unless you're considering it so I won't.

Also, personally, I don't think there's any point in going all inclusive as eating and drinking can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it.
Eg really nice breakfast in the old port for 2.50 each.

You're going at a great time.
The weather will be lovely during the day and nice and cool in the evening.
Which means you can sleep in comfort!!!

If you've any questions or queries feel free to ask.
