Gateway Scheme

Hi, I'm currently on a Gateway scheme with a local county council and I'm just wondering if someone can shed some light on what happens when your 22months are completed.

I'm aware that you revert back to jobseekers payment if you haven't gained employment. I'm just concerned because my term is due to finish on the 22nd Dec and with it being Christmas holidays I'm wondering whether I need to go in to my local welfare office when im finished or anything or is it just an automatic switch over? If I have to call in its likely they will be closed by then. I'm just worried as a family with two kids money is tight so can't afford to go without!

I should add that I am hoping to gain employment from this as I have been lucky enough to get placed in a job that actually utilises my skill set.

If you are finished on 22nd December then you go to your sw office on 23rd. The office will then be closed up to and including 27th Dec and will re-open on the 28th December.

I'm finishing mine at the end of the month. 2 people on it with me finished 2 weeks ago. You recieve a letter saying that you are finishing and tells you what to do. Take that to the dole office the day after you finish. You will be waiting a week or 2 before your welfare payment goes through so i'd recommend you go in a few weeks before and explain the situation as i can see you waiting to well into January before you get a payment.

It should have been a seamless switchover but the terms seem to have changed. The Gateway scheme is an absolute disgrace and i hope it is being done away with.

Thanks for the info. Managed to root out my contract and I'm finished on the 30th Dec. However the office I work in closes for Christmas on the 22nd Dec and reopens when the schools do. I'll have a chat with my line manager about it and see what I will do. At least if I know I'll have to wait a couple of weeks for payment I can plan for that. Not ideal just after Christmas but sure what can ya do!!
