Garage door - types & approx cost

    Need to replace our old steel up & over Henderson garage door & either repair or replace it's current wooden frame (one side is partly rotten). The door is rarely opened/used so I'm looking for a solution that is;
    a. as cheap as possible (doesn't have to be motorised)
    b. lasts as long as possible with little to no maintenance (i.e. no wood)
    c. sealed around all sides to prevent drafts
    d. insulated if possible (but not essential) to prevent heat loss

    Dimensions (Inside of garage)
    Width: 240cm (wall to wall), 16cm (left hand wall to existing door), 6cm (right hand wall to existing door)
    Height: 253cm (ceiling to ground), 33cm (ceiling to top of existing door)

    As regards door types;
    > Up & Over:
    I've been quoted €1300+ for an up & over similar to our existing one. Seems pricey for what it is (a fairly basic mechanism & steel door). Apparently the dimensions of the opening are non-standard (a bit bigger than the standard dimensions) & this adds cost.
    - Does this seem like the average going price?
    > Roller:
    I've been told a roller won't fit our garage due to not enough space inside the garage at the sides & above.
    - Does anyone here think there are roller solutions out there that might fit the dimensions?
    > Hinged:
    I'm told that these tend to only open outwards (needs to open inwards due to driveway slope).
    - Does anyone here think this is correct as regards direction of opening? I'm doubtful.
    > Sectional:
    Wondering if these might be a cheaper & better option.

    Looking for any tips & recommendations for suppliers & installers of the above types of garage doors that would fit the above criteria. Thanks.

    I got a new roller door recently. Size was 127" wide X 100" high. Cost me €500 just for the door or €900 if I wanted it motorised. If they are telling you the gap between the door and wall in too narrow to accommodate a roller door you could just build a row of blocks to give you extra width.

    Thanks, do you mean to shorten the width of the garage entrance? If so i can't do that, i need to retain the existing garage entrance width due to the structure & front finish.

    plus planning issues:)

    If u do go motorised with a remote, have an isolation switch on the circuit so as you can stop it being opened by the drive by lads: any i have done have this and its only powered when needed: one variation is a timer via relay which will cut the juice after maybe 15 minutes so as the default is always no power

    You can put the roller on the outside of you have space out there . Got a price of €1200 for a galvanised 14'*14' electric one lately . It would've been 2/300 dearer for a coloured one

    Will need planning if its a normal garage visible from road as it would look like an industrial unit

    Thanks, but an outside roller isn't an option in this case, still, mind posting or pm-ing me who you used to source & install it pls?

    Thanks, good to know re isolation switch for any future projects, this particular one won't need motorising though.

    For those that have rollers fitted;
    I've been quoted €580 for a Gliderol Mini which I'm told will fit my garage dimensions. Single sided, un-insulated, manual (non-electric). Seems like a reasonable price.

    But, from another provider I've been told that all roller doors are lighter, drafty & can to rattle & that in comparison a sectional door though more expensive would be stronger & draft proof. What are people's thoughts/experiences on roller doors in general Vs sectional doors as regards those factors? Any info from experience welcome.
