    Hi,

I had a 1993 car a good few years back that I was driving for many years. I think I got the car in 2003. I then got a new car and I wanted rid of my old car. I got rid of it in 2010 I think. I gave it to a friends friend as the car was in bits and he wanted to use it for parts and has been storing the car for many years on his own private land. The problem is that the car is still in my name. I am wondering do I need to have this car scrapped and pay back tax on it (which at this stage would be alot) or can I do something else?

    Thanks

    Phil

If I transfer it to him, does he or I have to pay back tax?

What if I cant get in touch with him?

    You've two options.

1-If you have the 'new' owners name and address, register it to him.
    2-Do nothing.

Either way, the only way you'd have to pay arrears is if you yourself wanted to tax the car as the current registered owner.

If you still have the logbook it's probably best to go for option 1 just to get it out of your name, and also it's the sellers responsibility to update the records.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles to avoid the DRS fee.

Ahh ok, thanks for that. It never registered with me that you only need to pay the arrears if you're going to tax it again....which I most definitely am not.

Thanks for your reply (and to everyone else for theirs too)
