Bush is not particularly good. Its an argos own brand - don't expect any decent sound.

Even though the price seems cheap, I wouldn't see it as value.

Bush is, as a previous post said, an Argos brand. However they only bought out the previous owner a few years back. Bush has a history going way back to the thirties with their name coming from Shepard's Bush, where the original engineers came from.

That said, they are now very much at the "cheap and cheerful" category and most of there products are now produced in Turkey.

Both of the radios you mention will be fine for casual listening but you may be better off going for something along the lines of a Roberts classic. Simple, robust and will have better sound quality.

The beauty of Argos is that you can take it home, try it out and if it's no good they will refund with no quibbles.

No trees were harmed in the posting of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Thanks for input. To be honest, I don't even want a DAB radio at all, I just want an FM radio.

The main reason I want one like above is the presets.

If DAb and bluetooth are not on the list of priorities... a simple Roberts like this one

    Roberts R9928

Would be ideal - only four presets but good reliable tuner.

For ease of use, I'd agree with Timfy, as the Presets are seperate buttons on top of the Roberts, while it seems like it might be a case of pressing Preset on the Bush and scrolling through stations onscreen, which may be more awkward.

How do the presets work on this Roberts. You just push a button and it moves the analog dial up and down the spectrum ?

Another option might be eBay, some of the Panasonic Radios from the early 80's were built like tanks.

Models like the Panasonic Panasonic 1105DLBE and similar, from around that period. They pop up quite often, in good nick, sometimes boxed. £15-20 average, excluding P&P.

They were marketed here, in the UK too, though I'd check voltage issues for anything from Germany etc.

This particular model has four tuning pots on the back panel for you to tune in your favourite stations.

Slightly OT but why is it so difficult to find a reasonably priced radio that has a digital FM only tuner with say ten or so presets, ideally individual preset buttons?

That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Don't care about DAB, MW, LW etc.

So was I a while ago. They are scarce on the ground. I ended up having to buy a DAB radio to get something near suitable though it doesn't have the individual preset buttons.

What make and model did you get ?

The pure evoke 1 is probably the closest match, but it's expensive and not being made anymore.

Many cheap portable FM pocket sets and phone radio apps have this capability, so there's got to be a few out there?

I was looking for a clock radio. We have a Sony in the house that fits the bill. Digital FM tuner with 5 presets. Unfortunately it seems to no longer be manufactured.

I first bought the Philips AJ3115/05 which has the digital FM tuner with presets. I listen at low volume mainly at night before bed and the Philips has a horrific whine at low volumes. I had to return it.

I ended up buying another Sony the XDRC706DBP. It was fairly expensive though at £48 for what it is.

Perhaps because I was looking for a clock radio but I could not find many.

Good find. The standard Play might be more suitable with the seperate 1-5 Preset buttons.

The multiband radios that pop up in Lidl and ALDI regularly enough might fit the bill if you can wait.
You can ignore the SW etc settings and just use the FM. I think they usually have 10 presets.
    Less than 20 quid too.
